Looked like a fair tussle for the ball while Saad is over it happens about 20 times a game 4:05 under immediate pressure within 9m 5:24 no prior made a fair attempt to dispose of the ball 5:44 slow to .25x can see that the ball is still hovering over the line

I can confirm this, saw the footage on Reddit the day after. It immediately reflects off the Melbourne player to the left's hand. It as the right call. We give umpires a lot of flak but we only see things from one or two angles, they're often in a better position to see these small differences.

@IG Renault-TeamYT I get what you're saying and I'm not going to agree or disagree about a different call in the match, but for the insufficient intent rule to apply is must leave the bounds of the oval having last touched the player who showed insufficient intent. So in this case it would not apply, even though I agree that sufficient intent wasn't shown. I do think they deserved the win though - a certain percentage of decisions will be seen favourably for you or against you, it's a fact of the game. There are dozens of calls that could go either way each game. I think we sometimes have the wrong idea when we focus on individual decisions so strongly. If a team puts themselves in a position to be one bad decision away from a win, I reckon they've earned the chance to be winners, personally. Games won by margins of less then a goal could easily belong to either team.

robbie grays was legal in the AFL rulebook, the umps take into consideration the distance (he was in the square), pressure (there were 3 dudes around him, Lynch and Riewoldt would have had an easy goal) and prior opportunity (had no reasonable target as the only man that he could possibly reach without the ball going to richmond was on the ground) other than that the rest were shocking

For reference: Tippa ball wasn't out. Don't even know what free you're looking for with the GC vs Saad one. Butler had both arms around Ward when the ball was spilled, released so as not to give away a free for holding, definitely was a tackle when he dropped it just happened very quickly. Robbie Gray's handball rushed behind was completely legal under the new rules. Adelaide handball to the boundary came off the Melbourne player last. Grimes one was absolutely not holding the ball, tackled as soon as he got it. Papley goal also wasn't out.

1:29 free kick to Adelaide was a great decision by the ump. Tilthorpe was trying to complete the mark with the second bite and St Kilda's Dougal Howard wasn't playing the ball,. He just yanked Tilthorpe's right arm away. That's holding the man and/or chopping the arms. Free kick. You don't get the green light to infringe just because the ball is close to the goal line. The Saints fan who compiled this clip clearly doesn't know the rules.

But having looked very closely at the Mark Blicavs' non-holding the ball decision on this video you could quite easily mount a case to say that he wasn't given enough prior opportunity before he got spun and tackled, despite most people claiming it to be the worst decision of the season.

Even though there was no umpiring as bad as the Essendon-Collingwood Anzac Day game of 2019, there were a number of games this year decided by poor umpiring decisions. The holding the ball, deliberate out of bounds (that North M one was just bizarre...I would swear that umpire is Scott McLaren who made the decision!!!!!!) and there aren't any 50m penalties anymore for dragging a player to the ground when he marks the ball. As we've seen by this years Grand Final, momentum is everything in footy. It only takes one bad decision, even early on, to change the flow of the game.

The Dougal Howard vs Adelaide Crows was a great call. The umpire’s explanation was poor, but Howard’s left hand clearly grabbed the Adelaide player’s right arm without the ball. The umpire got that call spot on. Not sure why there’s such outrage, it’s a free kick every day of the week - just so happened to cost St Kilda the game. They really lost it for themselves anyway. Can’t put away one of the worst teams of all time.
