The holding the ball rule needs some serious clarification, players, coaches and fans have no idea which way any decision is going to go, dissent should be decided by the MRP or tribunal, losing a game because a player expressed his emotions on the field should never happen.

Holding the ball could be so simple I mean count to 2 and if the possession player is tackled after 2 seconds then it's holding the ball no matter what. Same thing goes for dropping the ball the player has 2 seconds to dispose of the ball if they drop the ball or its knocked out of their hands after 2 seconds it's dropping the ball. No ands, ifs or buts. And the dissent rule should not exist at all it should be scrapped completely.

You've missed the two biggest howlers of not only 2022 but possibly ever. Darcy Moore featured in both. The ridiculous contact below the knees against Hawthorn when he was first to the ball, a hawks player fell on top of him and they got the free in the square. Second one the deliberate rushed behind in the wet against the GWS, even though he touched the ball inside the goal square. Edit: we can add the preliminary final "no call" to the list.

2 things: 1)THe abuse rule has to be the worst new rule the AFL has ever brought in. Players would look the wrong way and a 50m was paid because the umps were too soft and precious to have any form of disagreement. 2) Ginnivan is the epitome of the boy who cried wolf; he made a name for himself as a ducker and a flopper so now when he deserves a free he is much less likely to get it. That being said, the two you put here are 100% not frees for him, he literally dives when Guthrie touches his back and against NM you can clearly see him drop his knees into the tackle and immediately look to the ump. He has talent, if he just focuses on playing the game he'll be a star, until then he's gonna be hated for being a sook/flop.

The Ginnivan ones you've included are really bad selections. They're actually great calls, especially the one at 6:00. You're clearly on that "GiNnIvaN iS UmPiReD DifFeRenTly" bandwagon. The way he plays is a cancer on the game, such a cancer that the AFL (who are so protective of the head) and now paying less high tackles because the spectacle of the game is being ruined by certain players. The one at 6:00 is an excellent, 10/10 call that most spectators of the game absolutely loved. In keeping with the rules, the umpire correctly deems that Ginnivan lowered his bodyheight for no reason other than to draw high contact, which forfeits his right to a high free kick and forfeits his prior opportunity. Look at how Ginnivan looks at the umpire instantly after the tackle. That's all he cares about.

Some people clearly don’t understand the rules of the game. Mitch McGovern bumped vandermeer off the ball and front on as he was running not in the play. As well as the Shai Bolton being tackled by Neale, great tackle and would deserve holding the ball of Shai ever had prior. His attempted to dispose of the ball as soon as he got it and if he can’t dispose of it he never had prior.

You're right Mate, people don't know the rules...... that's cos' every frigging year they[AFL] add, tweak or change the rules! In 50+ years of following AFL, i can't recall a single year without some sort of BS rule being applied. As you can see from this vid the shambles & inconsistency that are at play now & effecting the outcomes of the results of the game! AFL football is a fiasco, a joke...... a cluster f**k of rules! This is NOT the sort of footy i want to be watching! ET

Richmond get a free kick, ball spills out to Baker and he stops to motion not to take advantage. Umpire ignores common sense and calls play on. Baker who is standing still is tackled. Instead of common sense balling it up the umpire calls holding the ball. Naturally the Richmond players are in disbelief and after one argues the point the umpire gives a 50M penalty against, easy shot on goal.

3:30 there's a reason they don't pay him free kicks. It's because he dives, and that one in particular was about as clear a dive as you can get. Glad they didn't pay it. I hope next year they go a step further and make diving a one week suspension. It's a horrible look for the game and fines don't affect most players because $1000 is spare change to them. And I don't mean slight exaggerations- I think that's ok as long as you're not inventing contact or excessively exaggerating contact- I mean things exactly like this. Ginnivan feels very slight contact on his back and throws himself forward like he was hit by a truck- automatic one week suspension for Ginnivan.
