I'm really surprised with the shake on your edelkrone setup. I found I only had these kind of shakes when the tracks were dirty or the slider motor gear belt was too loose. I also generally try to have the tripod legs out as far as the track is extending so avoid tripod flex too. Sandbags help a lot of course, but I still find having the legs spread out further is pretty key.
@RaviTahilramani3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree. I have the newer slider long and no shake issues with a Laowa probe lens. I was surprised by the amount of shake (mine is pretty smooth) Maybe the slider has dirt or is worn out. I also second that you need to spread the tripod legs further for stability. I saw a couple of frames where you were holding on to the tripod to support it, that will induce shake. Lastly great comparison, thank you for spending the time to do this.

I too was quite shocked by the amount of vibration on the Edelkrone setup. I was also shocked by the lack of power on both the slider and the PT head. I build and supply kits for the Digital Bird DIY system and have experience building both the over the top Rhino style head and the Balanced Edelkrone style head. An additional point to consider when choosing is do you ever see yourself wanting to use the head on the end of a Jib? If you do then the Rhino head will not work well since the balance of the Jib will dramatically change as the full weight of the camera goes over. Balanced heads do not have this issue.

@PhillipSkraba3 жыл бұрын
The Edelkrone can be looped by pressing both key poses at once. The belt you used for hand slides on the Edelkrone was the motor belt, you'd need to change it to the nylon belt for manual movement, if you want to slide manually with the motor belt you'd need to pick up the Edelkrone Steady Module which makes a HUGE difference, it works really well with a Manfrotto video head. The Edelkrone is also great for macro, as it may not be as fast and the Rhino but it's a lot, lot, lot slower. The footage gives it away though, I have similar problems when it comes to shake and have to agree that neither slider is perfect. Mind you a touch of stabiliser and even the Edelkrone is as smooth as butter. Funnily enough I was recently sent the Zeapon slider for testing which is a lot cheaper and I'm blown away at the smoothness of it, they seem to have a pan tilt set coming soon too. I'm also quite impressed with how the Slypod handles smooth movement. Both the Zeapon and Slypod outperform the Rhino and Edelkrone when it comes to macro shots. Fingers crossed for smoother sliders in the future 🔥

Every vs slider review & comparison: Rhino - Smooth and easy to use when working but there’s always the chance you’ll end up with an expensive paperweight, oh and we’ve been waiting 15 years for an additional key frame. Edelkrone: Blew the budget on software 🦏 could only dream of and schiffer sponsorships, but you will need a degree in mechanical engineering to tune and maintain your kit. Also, don’t plan on eating anything with crumbs with a 10 meter radius of the device, or indeed doing anything remotely messy or creative. Conclusion? Both parties could do better, especially for the asking price. I don’t mind paying good money, but I expect a good product. 🙄

Great review! I personally think Rhino Arc 2 is the clear winner. Obviously Edelkrone is smaller to travel with but for everything else and what really matters - useable footage in most situations, the tech and strength in the Rhino makes it worth the extra bulk to carry to ensure the user gets the shot sooner than having to do multiple takes to ensure a really smooth capture.

I think there is something wrong with your Edelkrone Setup, since this shake isnt normal. You should check if the belt has come loose. Also, im a bit weirded out, that you didnt use the one Killer feature that the Edelkrone has over every other product. Positioning by HAND. you grab it, and just point it where you want it to go, no mumbo jumbo with the App or controller, just grab it and push it where it needs to be. Its the thing that made me buy it. Other than that, great comparison, Austin.

I've had an Edelkrone setup for a year now and wish I had bought Rhino instead. It seems to be much more reliable. What really bothers me about Edelkrone is that the slider is prone to breakdown. If it's not balanced perfectly, the motor stops working. I don't think that is acceptable at this price point. Seems more like a toy some time than a semi-professional tool.

Great video. Had seen a fair bit about rhino's UI and ease of setting up shots before, but you really highlighted some pieces that I haven't seen before on the UI and made edle worth considering. I have the edelkrone v5 slider V3 slide module and pan pro. The jitters are terrible! I've spent nearly a year trying to get a stable shot. Customer service is great, very patient and send new units to test. I've made a few videos for them but they are never satisfied and keep asking for more videos. They're great though. The problem is the motor. It jitters! The best motor was the original Action module from 2015. Smooth and fast (3 second vs 17 seconds). But it's loud and doesn't work with the app plus the target module it pairs with wasn't good. I'm looking for a replacement. I bought the original Rhino years ago. I'm hesitant to dive back into Rhino. The zeapon is interesting but slow and only 3speed options from what I can tell. Post an alternative and ill buy it🙏🙏🙏

Love your content Austin, but a couple comments on this video. 1. This video made me happy I went with the Rhino about 6 months ago. It confirmed the Edelkrone is pretty bad when it comes to a smooth slide. I wanted the Edelkrone, but after watching Gerald Undone's video where he mentioned how hard it was to set up and balance(?) before shooting, I decided on the Rhino. 2. How are these sliders $2,500 to $3,000? Sliders are the most overpriced specialty piece of gear, especially when they still have major flaws like you've shown. Having said that, I'd happily pay $3,500 for a slider that is silent, has a powerful and fast motor, great app support, easy set up and portability. Why can't any manufacturers figure this out??? 3. The Rhino does have a worse app, and the limited keyframes are a bummer, but I mostly use for B-Cam on talking head interviews so I just set to looping slide. 4. The Edelkrone isn't even as smooth as the $350 GVM slider I own. Is everyone stabilizing footage in post when using this??? 5. You can buy shorter rails for the Rhino, so portability is actually better than the Edelkrone. Also, I can leave it all hooked up on the rails and store/travel in the included Rhino soft case. I literally just pull it out, put it on the tripods and start shooting after setting keyframes. Can't get much faster than that. 6. You didn't talk much about the high speed vs. high torque motors. I hate that you have to buy 2 motors for this if you want all the shooting options, but they're there if you need them. 7. Like you said, it all depends on what you're shooting. If more than 2 keyframes is needed for product shots etc., then maybe the Edelkrone is your choice, but in every other situation it seems like the Rhino wins. 8. You test the sliders on a wooden table that vibrates and exaggerates/amplifies the sound of the slider. IMO the sound test should be done on a tripod to isolate these vibrations. 9. Lastly, I had to return my main Rhino unit after my initial purchase because it wouldn't charge after a week. This seems to be an issue I've seen online, so maybe the build quality or QC isn't quite as good as the Edel, but I'd still take the Rhino for it's smooth slides and ease of use.

I believe for the angle test, the motor will perform better if you put it at the top of the angle, rather than the bottom.

no one buys a slider base on UI, yes I agree the UI is important and ease of use is always too, but you buy a motorize slider for sliding..it is clear Rhino won! even though I agree that the Rhino should be able to start at any point. .. I think Edelkrone has a lot of expandability with all their modules so it is still a great slider if you need a slider for those features.

For me a slider that can work without an app is a good thing - I already have apps for too many things, often badly designed, and it seems that sometimes they are competing with each other in terms of connection. Also simplicity usually wins in my book. . I heard stories about connection dropped with Edelkrone devices in the middle of a shoot, which I never experienced myself (jib one, tilt head one). Probably a non issue for solo studio product shots, but for interviews b-roll it could be a bigger problem... . Did anyone had these issues?

Great comparison! Well done! Personally, I think the limitation at inclines and full-motion is kind of off-putting given how much these systems costs. Sure the Edelkrone UI is beautiful but if you can only use it for leveled video slides, it's way too much money for that. I do like the Rhino hardware better, i had Edelkrone, and while their design is nice at first, it's extremely limited for heavier gear when you do not want to have a single tripod in the center.
