What a brilliant video. I remember as a kid back in the early 70s, we used to go out on that wonderful institution....the Sunday drive. We'd head up through the Antrim hills or go along the Antrim Coast Road in my dad's old Opel Kadett- get an ice cream somewhere or have a picnic. Yes...we had the tartan rug too. The Kadett used to rattle around too so just the sound of 70s motoring is just wonderful. If granny came with us, we'd always have to be home for Songs of Praise. Great times...👍

That is an absolutely beautiful GT. Lovely Teal Blue, and the entire car is just so well sorted! We received a 2 door version of the Mk2 1300 in the US (and Canada), badged "Austin America." Same engine, but single 1.5" SU carburetor. Same steering wheel, but the long speedometer, instead of separate gauges. I've owned mine since 1983, and still love it dearly. You did a fantastic job with the camera set-up and editing. Thank you for the ride!

To Austinado16. Incidentally, is your car with 2 doors? I believe all Austin America's were. And did you do a video of it? I' m sure I've seen one! In that, the car had opening rear windows I never they offered that as an option- and I think it should be standard. The Volkswagen Beetle was offered with opening rear windows - which should in my opinion also have been standard.

@@nygelmiller5293 Yes. All of the Austin Americas were 2 door Saloons, and all had rear side windows that hinged open, like those on the Volkswagens. I don't have any videos of my car on KZbin, yet, other than at the start of this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJrGg2lppKeZfdk

Such a beautiful car. Brings me back to my childhood when I wanted my Dad to get one but he said it wasn't big enough for our family and got an 1800 instead. Please let me know if you're ever going to sell her. I just love it.

What an absolutely cracking video, brought back many good memories of driving my GT - my driving gloves were half leather/string backed. I remember having to use 5* fuel as per the manual. My GT was just two years old with about 11,000 miles, it cost me £1195 in 1975. I was debating whether to buy that or a 1968 Daimler Sovereign for the same price, being 21 I found the insurance was too expensive, I never regretted buying my GT it was a marvellous car. Bought mine from Sheffield Motor Company ( Kennings ), it came with air horns which I promptly replaced with high and low tone twins which sounded much better. You live in a beautiful place and have a lovely home. Thanks for posting.

Thank you so much for your kind comments Allan. I'm pleased it brought back memories for you. In case you haven't seen them, I've also posted two other videos of the car where i give narrated walk round tours. Thank you also for sharing a bit of your motoring history. Always good to hear. All the best. (P.S. I left the string backed gloves in my other classic....a Capri! )

Wow, that's great to know Simon. I have basic details of all the previous owners (copies of previous 'V5's') & an address in Bournemouth rings a bell! Sadly I inherited only very limited historical paperwork with the car so cannot be accurate as to what has been done to her. I feel sure however that some amount of restorative work has been carried out. She is a survivor, & I have written a great many regular reports on the car (in The 1100 Club magazine) since 2017 when I bought her. I can assure you prices have risen somewhat since you owned her ! Thanks for your post. P.S. Have you seen my other two videos about the car ?

Mine has always been Teal Blue. At its launch in 1969 the GT was available in three colours I believe, White, Yellow & Red. Eventually a choice of nine colours were available, together with three interior colours. (Red, Black & Limeflower)
