I also lost my mom, 25, 2 years ago, it has been hell in a way, I didnt exactly do what he did but I understand the emptiness and rage. It consumes you and those around you that love you have no choice but to sit and watch because you wont accept help, and you do try to better yourself and you just fall off again. But you have to understand as bitter as it feels, if you want to keep going, time does help.

I was disappointed when I had to miss an OM&M show last week because I was scheduled to speak at AWANA at my church. While giving the beautiful gospel message and teaching God's patience with us to these precious little souls, I was wishing to be in the pit and jamming to Earth and Sky live. I am now put to shame, yet grateful things were how they were. Hearing Austin's voice, the one I would practice my screams to in 10th grade, read that verse from Philippians 3 with that heartfelt love and conviction... I'm in shock, in awe, in amazement. Wow. God is good. Why am I still standing with one foot in both lanes?

Yes but him finding where his heart stands with God has brought him strength in a way, but just imagine losing someone you where so close to and then eventually figure out you have the same experiences, this man is so much more than the world even knows about strength. I couldn’t imagine how angry he was after losing his loved one, and all the shit. He went thru, not with just the band but with false lovers aswell ): he deserves all the love from us fans and all that we gave him, God aswell but, God gave us him and he gave us such a good long life time messages in his song when we were all going through our own things even if it was angry sounding...but hey we all aren’t perfect are we?

I am not religious, and I think Austin carried on a bit much about religion, but his message is very important here. You can be living the dream, but whatever you truly feel inside you, is what's real. Search for your own happiness, whether you find it through a deity or not.

@RomanSwak
@RomanSwak 5 жыл бұрын
@@danieleverett4213 Funny enough, when delivering this message, I find that establishing an equal basis of well-being with your listeners is important. Austin did fine, but if he extended a hand to those who don't believe in his words, he would win that crowd over a lot easier. At the end of the day, it's all about being positive and fighting for happiness and wisdom. That knows no religion.
@danieleverett4213

It's not necessarily about "winning a crowd over", the Christian message is what it is (also, the primary audience was the crowd and not folk such as ourselves). If those in the audience don't like it that is totally fine, there are plenty of other speakers out there who would talk like you describe.

@@RomanSwak I think you're a little misguided and missed the point, considering this is a Christian conference posted on a church's KZbin account. This has nothing to do with winning a crowd over. It would've been insincere if he catered and curated his talk to "win them over"

I was all for it and with him until about the last 10-15 minutes when he started saying that “God wanted and needed my mom to die so I could learn.” God is LOVE, and nothing but that. God did not WANT to do that, nor did He. The devil did that, and yes God allowed him to because he has the key to universe, and because we have free will. And God is so gracious that he USED THAT PAIN to transform Austin into the man of God that he is today. I’m sorry, but I’m not sorry. That’s the damn truth. God is love, not disease, not death, not illness, not addiction, not pain, not depression, not self hatred. He. Is. Love.

Very late response but metal music will be very hard for him to get back into. Marfan syndrome prevents healing to some degree and Austin while screaming for Attack Attack and Of Mice & Men was ripping the connective tissues to the spine at the back of his neck. Among many other injuries from touring I hope he starts singing again but I don't know how much screaming he'll be able to do.

Brasileiro aqui, resumindo...

What is with the delivery tho? I'm all for one immersing themselves in their faith, but why is he talking like that?
@brandoni.fernandez6059
@brandoni.fernandez6059 5 жыл бұрын
That's how some churches deliver their messages. In certain denominations it's normal to give a testimony in casual sounding tones and a lot of the times when they are trying to talk to an audience like a normal conersation it comes off a little awkward but still good I think.

It saddens me that he feels that way about the band that I love so much that got me through so much....I’m happy he’s happy...but damn:/ I don’t think he mentioned attackattack because they had heavy Christian roots, he was allowed to express his love for his faith...OMAM probably muted him.

He doesn't mention Attack Attack and that all those lyrics were very religious, so he's contradicting himself. He said that he hated God the moment his mother died but then records a Christian record?

Honestly i fucking love Austin, big inspiration for me and my vocal style. Still jamin to Of Mice and Men (the stuff he was in on), but i fucking hate it when he talks about god. The shit gets so annoying, " i was a depressed kid, then i gave myself to god, and now im all better." Austin... convincing yourself of utter bullshit, doesn't make you less depressed, it just make you more ignorant. I suppose ignorance is bliss huh? "I liked writing about actual problems that real people have, but then i returned to my faith, and now i just wana write about non issues that imaginary people have." Im sorry man, but the best art that came out of you was when you were in your darkest moments, and thats usually the case with artist. Try not to look back at that time so negatively. You helped and left a lasting impression on teenagers like me, that will take what you gave to the world and create something new from it. Not many people can say that they pioneered an entire genre of music, and not many people can say that their own self expression about their darkest moments helped thousands of people get through their own darkest moments. Idk, hopefully Austin can look back on his former band in 5 years and actually be proud of what he did, instead of preaching to everyone about how hes so much better now because he is convinced he's saved when his brain no longer functions. I for one, hope there is nothing when i die, consciousness is more pain than its worth for a single lifetime, not to mention eternity.

Moving stuff, but it's important to recognize that even still Austin is on a journey of healing that may take the rest of his life to recover from. His testimony hints at how he is struggling to understand. I don't believe it's healthy to believe God wanted his mom to die. Life is Suffering. There are just things in life that escape our notice and surprise/terrify us when they happen. It's better to understand that he CHOSE to curse God (or the reason for Austin's own existence) because of his circumstances by descending into hedonistic pleasures and self-worship. He made his tragedy into a darker and blacker horror than it needed to be. It wasn't until he lost control of his own body due to the intense pain from his spinal injuries and heart problems related to his Marfan Syndrome that it finally committed him to step away from his life. To finally recognize just how many stupid things he did that dragged his soul down to deeper depths of his own personal hell. His material pleasures, the lies he may have told, the violence he witnessed, was this really the ideal long-term dream he wanted? I would imagine after being in the hospital so many times and coming close to nearly being 30 years old, the terrifying future Austin might have seen for himself finally scared him enough to change. I'm just not sure about his biblical beliefs. That's a tricky business of how to handle celebrities and faith because they are practically two gods; one of them needs to fall completely. I would only become worried if Austin began his own church.

I respect Austin for getting better, I just wish he hadn't fallen into false shit. I won't say that it's fine, cause he traded one sickness for another. Like using oxy cotton to get off heroin. They're both bad. He saved his life, but now his perspective will always be based in stories. Sad, but I'm glad he's still alive and doing better. I have a conflict with treating people using god. I have a conflict with people using god as a substitute for actual medical and fact based therapy. I wish he could have gone to a therapist instead of to his dad. Maybe then he'd be here actually healed fully. Instead he's here still believing in horrible things. Remember, the bible says it's okay to own slaves, to kill every male and tainted woman (not virgin) and keep any virgin girls for yourself, that plants came after humans, that the answer to differences is to kill or abuse. Jesus agrees with this stuff btw. He tells you to follow what the past guys said and that slaves obey your masters. I know what I said won't get through to anyone. But I challenge you to actually think about what the bible says. Start at old testament. Trust me. And don't cherry pick. Love you Austin, and your music. I wish you could have made the music and have been happy. I wish your life was better, but hell, I have plenty of issues. But I won't use god or religion as a crutch. Stay safe people.

Awesome story, And now I know why Of Mice and Men went to shit! I am very happy for Austin and his happiness in life atm, and at the same time, I think he is a class act of betrayal towards a huge fan base he had built! Sad but true, The God I know, would not let me turn my back on millions of fans . IMO, should have changed your lyrics and prayed for the best! Austin is a great leader in the music world, changing many lives.

Who are you to say that he is betraying the fans? He has Marfan syndrome, so he literally couldn’t continue. Also, he has no obligation to stay in music, and you have no right to claim he is a “class act of betrayal.” So no, it’s not “Sad But True”
