Dr. Ralph was incredibly talented but I think his biggest thing was he saw talent in others and then helped them develop that talent and thrive.

You can listen to any of the modern "bluegrass" bands of today, then listen to this, and it just so utterly destroys the modern stuff. Makes the newgrassers sound like absolute fakes and pretenders.

The first generation Bluegrass bands each had their own unique sound. Most of the modern bands of the past 20 years sound generic in my opinion. Many of the newer musicians are phenomenal players it just seems they lack the originality and pure sound of the old timers. Anyway I saw Ralph and this lineup back in 1980 at Glen Burnie High School in Maryland. Ola Belle Reed was opening for Ralph. They were both fantastic.
