Description....found this in my pc god knows were it came from, I have no idea, if you love Austin sevens then you might be uncomfortable watching this. In the 1950s and 60s it was all the rage to use Austin sevens as the basis for a special, special building is still done today, but a good car would be rarely sacrificed now, instead specials would be built from bits and pieces.

Why? I'd prefer what they ended up with ANY day. Don't get me wrong, I like classic 7's but the transformation from frumpy librarian to sexy kitten is amazing, and the car gets a new life as a convertible whereas the original donor was more likely to end up as so many washing machines otherwise, and keep in mind there's a chance this car is STILL out there somewhere.

Eleven quid! They were robbed. I can remember as a nipper, my friend Paul Dampier's mum tried to give my dad her Ford Eight. I can remember being in that little car going places. Anyway, my dad could not drive so he looked that gift horse in the mouth. He bought his first car about six years later- a Cortina estate- £415. That was a reasonable sum in those days- it was just over two years old.

Remember as a child being fascinated by these bodies shown for sale in ' Motor Sport ' magazine I think under the ' Ashley ' label.Yes, times have changed, that RN Box saloon would never be destroyed now, it looks pretty sound !.In the mid 60s aged 15 , I was given a 1938 Ruby saloon with a very rotten body but saved it with an identical 1937 body in good shape. It was my first car at 17 and used it for 2 years and covered over 20,000 miles !.

that reminds me of a time I helped a pal who had bought 2 Ruby's I vividly remember helping to lift off the rotten body and fitting the better one, 4 of us one on each corner and heave ho, it was a case of making one very good car out of two tatty ones must have been 1971 happy days

Why, for Crowley’s sake, did they keep the flathead? If I was building one back then, I’d stick a Ford Consul, Volvo B-16, Borgward Isabella, Austin A-series, Mercedes 190SL or Alfa Romeo Twin Cam engine.
