There’s a famous quote from Josef Koudelka that says "I never stay in one country more than three months. Why? Because I was interested in seeing, and if I stay longer I become blind." I find this to be very true. I live in Tokyo, and I often find the city uninspiring for my style of photography. However, whenever I travel, I discover beauty in the small things and details around me. For 2025, I have a New Year’s resolution: I want to challenge myself creatively to find inspiration in my own city, to try to see my surroundings from a different perspective. I also agree that shooting digitally can be uninspiring, especially when you’re struggling with your subject. Shooting film black and white is a good solution, and is cheap as well. I’m looking forward to seeing your work man. I love the new videos and the photos you've shared. Merry Christmas

shooting digital uninspiring? interesting/strange take. everything else you said here is well put. There are so many options to make shooting any camera interesting, from lenses, filtration, formats.. and most important of all the 6 inches between the ears, and your subject matter, your message.

Hey Augie, good to see your posting more regularly. As for inspiration, I'm sure you have your process. I go back to my home library, reading always triggers something, my notebook is a great source of inspiration. You'll find your groove, writing block is part of the process, it's the mind telling you to rest a bit. Regarding the camera shop there was one you use to frequent in midtown I believe. I miss your visit there and noticed that those video have been removed. There was always a nice salesman who greeting you in those clips. Be good and Godspeed.

I've been thoroughly enjoying your India series. Brings back a sense of nostalgia, as I used to live in India as a child, due to my father's job. To be honest, I haven't watched a video of yours, since your bmx / modelling days, but always loved the way you filmed and directed your videos. I recently came across your vlogs again and can see the immense growth in, not only you as a person, but the substance and quality of your videos (not that they lacked before). I never heard of that camera store before. I know of bandh and Adorama. I use KEH. But I have gotten most of my film cameras at thrift stores and and monthly camera show I used to help promote online. My payment was film and cameras. And they had one vendor who had a $5 table. So I picked up canon EOSs and Nikon N 90 and N90s bodies for $5 or $2.50 a piece and they worked when batteries were put in. Gelatin Labs is in Maplewood , NJ. I use another lab in NJ that I always go to. They do good work. And I can buy all types of film and they are also a camera store.

Random Inspiration Idea: Find a tourist or a friend or someone new to the city and let them take you around. Capture the city through their fresh eyes and excitement. Might give some inspiration.
