Even this pasty white girl from California grew up hearing this song. Miriam Makeba would be so proud of Angelique. What a timeless song.

Fantastic. Keeping Miriam alive. Thank you Angelique. Getting through breast cancer in London with difficult marriage and this song played and remembered on bbc radio 4 today has brought me so much joy today.

I am forever grateful to my grade-school music teacher for introducing me to Miriam Makeba (and others) in the very early 1960s. I was, maybe, 8 or 10. It was my initiation to what would, now, be called "World Music". Each class, he would play an album from his own record collection and we'd discuss it. This song is, today, in my own i-Pod collection. That piano! That voice!

I adore this and Ms Makeba's performance. KZbin's auto translation identified the language as "Native". Native what? I'll bet if she were singing in French, it wouldn't have been identified as "native." By the way, I think it is sung in Xhosa.
