I am forever grateful to my grade-school music teacher for introducing me to Miriam Makeba (and others) in the very early 1960s. I was, maybe, 8 or 10. It was my initiation to what would, now, be called "World Music". Each class, he would play an album from his own record collection and we'd discuss it.
