With $100 set top boxes like the Sony PlayStation TV offering serious gaming cred, is it actually worth it to buy one of these 'consoles' like the Amazon Fire TV, Asus / Google Nexus Player?
Being able to play PS Vita games along with PS1 Classics, PSP titles and PS3 and PS4 games via PlayStation Now and PS4 Link streaming is a huge plus for the PlayStation TV but with both the Fire TV and Nexus Player running a version of Android it's not as simple as how many games you've got.

Stephano Vargas I think of them more as media consumption devices. Gaming systems should have significantly more power than any of these do, unless they're just for emulated experiences, like the Retron 5. If you want something that does it all, perhaps an HTPC would be the best option. It's more pricey, but also can be customized to suit your tastes. You can make it a gaming PC, a media center, a streamer, or an all around beast... If you can afford it. :)

You know... if I could go back in time, I'd tell Sony to use the same chips for the Vita into the original PSP so that PS Vita would be backwards compatible. i'd also tell them to not use proprietary memory chips or charging port. It'd have saved them a LOT of trouble. Heck, making it have online texting and emergency calling for parents and it'd have been perfect.

Sergiu Pop Yeah I have a cor2 2 2.55Ghz pc that I bought in 2006, I had a Nvidia 440 or 460 in it, it played games quite decently on that, title such as the newest battlefield in 2014, COD etc.... But since were talking about people going out to spend money on a cheap console, my suggestion would be to spend twice the money and get a decent budget APU system. Just a suggestion.

You're better off buying a used xbox360 or PS3 for almost the same price and you have access to a huge library of now cheap games. Those God of War games going for 15$ on the PS store can be found for like 5-10$ used and you'll actually own a disc. Maybe not vita exclusives but portable versions of games are always worse than console versions. If you enjoy CoD (or BF) you can play almost all of them. This alone is enough for years of multiplayer entertainment. I have no problems finding matches when I go back on my 360 being that the only CoD not on it is infinite warfare (which is garbage) and MWR, though the original is. People are getting sick of thruster bullshit so they come back.
