For anyone having issues with the Sentret cave (specifically only Sandshrew and Geodude spawning), from my observations it seems that Sentret and Furret only spawn specifically in the cave when its nighttime. It's a bit odd but at least it does work

17:57 I tried testing this during the day a few times with Encounter/Shiny Power 3 Normal to see, and I saw Starly and Staravia spawns only. I did notice though that it seemed like Austin was at the point in the story with the perpetual "evening" time which could be a factor as to why there weren't any spawns. Unfortunately I don't have any files left that haven't finished the DLC story so I can't really test that. As an extra note: Yes, I know about the cave where there are Hoothoot and Noctowl spawns. I just wanted to test Austin's hypothesis for the sake of curiosity.

There's a cave about halfway between Ogerpon's cave and the Crystal Pool where swinub appear to be the only spawn even without any sandwich power. Should be just as easy as sentret's cave.

Probably the easiest spawn in the game. All it is just swines. You can even try for a jumbo or teeny shiny lvl3 sandwhich here, since encounter power makes no difference.

There is a cave that only has hoothoot and clefairy, on the outside of Oni Mountain northwest of KitaKami Hall. On the map just north of KitaKami Hall you'll see two trees with one on a green patch and one on the mountain side; if the two trees made a line and you followed that line across the river, the cave entrance is on the rectangular green patch that falls on the same line. Drop a flying sandwhich and fly from the cave, across the river, to high ledge that's just far enough away to despawn the cave pokemon. Then jump back into the cave, and spawn some golden owls!

For the Koffing, it knows explosion and memento (and might know self destruct, but from testing it seems to know belch instead). It can also have neutralizing gas which negates damp ability. You can get a drifblim with imprison, explosion, memento, and self-destruct. I don’t believe self destruct is necessary so either thunderwave or hypnosis to catch the Koffing easier is probably worth while

What I love about the DLC is how the caves only ever have 1 (maybe 2) pokemon that regularly spawn there, so even without a sparkling sandwich you can still hunt them so easily. While I was still avoiding the plot, I found the save under the Hall hill and I got a shiny Sandshrew in like 10 minutes (with a Lv2 ground encounter sandwich, which honestly didn't really change the spawn rate lol) Then I found a Hoothoot cave, the Carbink cave, a fully Geodude cave... It's so dang easy to hunt shinies here, I love it :D

Austin, I was homeless in 2020, but I had a friend who passed away 2-27-21. I got my Switch Lite the next month and only played anything he got me into. I did pick up Pokemon games as I could, but I only got to the point where I could get events. Nothing but anything he got me into helped me. Recently I started thinking I could pick up other games to play again. But this year hit me hard. In January a video game company announced the sequels of one he introduced me to coming to America this year. Around the anniversary of his passing, it was able to be reserved. So on what would've been his 44th birthday, I got dressed and went to reserve it. I picked it up last month and ask if he's watching now. And now next year, three more come out.

I’m sorry you went through all that. I understand. My dad, both my grandparents and my dog died in 2017 while my mom got sick with cancer. I managed to devote six years of my life nursing my mother back to health and Im happy to say she’s still alive. I’m still picking up the pieces of my life though and have yet to find a new normal. I’ll get there I guess.

A shame Shinys don't mask the jingle sound anymore. I'm guessing that when they were Beta testing the game the shiny sound was going off consistently lol. God knows how many shinys we've drove past and had no idea was there. In Teal Mask I spotted a shiny Spoink. That things tiny lol.

I went looking for applin in the orchard the other day and I came back with two shiny sentrets and an applin. I’ll definitely have to try hunting for carbink, I love those little guys.

I would like to just add, and I'm sure this is already well known by now but I just picked up the dlc yesterday and noticed this almost immediately, there are caves literally everywhere that seem to only spawn one specific Pokémon or maybe one family of pokémon. I've seen this so far with sandshrew, geodude, and hoothoot. You can pretty easily just drop a sandwich, and walk in and out of the cave a bunch to keep respawning until you get a shiny. You can also just as easily knock out 60 of them to increase the odds until you get one. I did this with hoothoot last night, my first kitakami shiny, and it only took like 20 minutes.
