This is a remake by Jeff Lynne (ELO’s leader) decades after the original. He remade several hits but the originals are always preferable.

I much prefer the original which has more edge and bite to the strings especially. This version sounds soft and sugar coated in comparison.

This is the 2012 version, i prefer the original from 1973.

I concur with you saying that this is a great song...but this version is missing much of the groove and funkiness of the original 1973 release. You will probably like that one better/much better.
