Personally, if you're going to take these recommendations seriously, I strongly recommend starting with The Ricky Gervais Show.

We want to be able to go down the TV Show rabbit hole with these suggestions, and eventually we will. Currently doing 30-50min video reactions just isn't possible for us. We'd have to drop down to 2-3 uploads a week. As soon as we are able we will most certainly be reacting to these suggestions!

That is 100% Karl's real personality, he is not acting. He is just a grumpy Northerner that hates being pushed outside his comfort zone. Ricky knew this and made a TV series called 'An Idiot Abroad' and tortured Karl by sending him all over the world and making him get involved with (extremely) foreign culture - A must-watch!

I feel like The Ricky Gervais Show is the perfect start to that journey though. You get so much more context and a 'feel' for who Karl really is in that show. He comes off as just a whingey person (which he is) in The Idiot Abroad if you haven't seen much of him before.

The best thing about An Idiot Abroad is it's all these exotic, far-flung places and experiences that most of us would love to do, but Karl is just a common, working class, down to earth, moany Northern bloke who doesn't want to go anywhere and anything outside the North of England is way outside his comfort zone; he's the type of Brit that goes to Spain then spends the whole time looking for a British pub, serving British food and British beer, looking for shops selling British newspapers, refusing to speak a word of Spanish, then moaning the whole holiday about it being too hot!

Karl was a producer at a radio station called XFM. Ricky got a show there and Karl was brought in as his producer, and from day 1 Ricky was fascinated by how his brain works.

Prior to the office where Ricky and Steve co wrote they both worked at x FM on the desk but no where near Karl and Karl may not have been there at the time. When Ricky and Steve finished the office they were offered to come back to X FM and they had their own show and Karl was assigned as the producer. But when they realised Karl being Karl they started to have him on the show and it went from there.

Maybe it's not saying his persona is an act. Maybe it's because of the fact he has gone on to act in some programs so that's why he is also now able to be described as an actor. Although of course, I wouldn't say acting is his main thing or what he's mostly known for.

Karl is in our hearts as a national treasure. He is just himself; authentic. And makes comments that are funny, without realizing himself that he is funny. Ricky says that Karl is blessed with comic timing that every comedian would die to have. For Ricky, Karl is the funniest man in the world. Karl is an unintentional funny man. And a great part of his appeal is down to the fact that Karl thinks differently to most people. He is a gift to the world! 'An Idiot Abroad' is classic tv and will show Karl's grumpy, simple way of life disrupted constantly by Gervais and Merchant. Though ,maybe 'The Ricky Gervais podcast' - the animated version - might be the first place to start on the journey. Or even the shorts, 'Meet Karl Pilkington' parts 1 and 2.

I just knew jess would split her sides laughing that's why myself and others suggested it! Ricky is a comic genius, No script Karl didn't know what he was in for that's why it's a lot funnier! Watched it dozens of times and it never fails to make me laugh😂 So happy you have now shown it. I have been awaiting jessis face erupting with laughter for a time now I knew she would love it! Karl is already a legend in the UK...his 3 seasons of an idiot abroad from about 15 years ago are hilarious. Ricky sends him to various locations around the world but basically sets him up with bad hotels and even worse situations..Karl's got books out now too which are very funny....Great reaction 😂

There are hours and hours of Karl, Ricky and Steve Merchant. It's absolute gold. This is really how Karl is. Hecwas a producer for Ricky and Steves Radio show back in the early 2000s and one day they let him speak on air and the rest is history.

You can see why Karl is one of the few people that makes gervias laugh. Karl’s whole act is that he is genuinely this person, gervais find him hilarious so made shows about him where he sent him abroad and made him review the holiday. It was so funny

History time- Ricky Gervais worked at a small radio station in London called XFM, because he took on more jobs at the station (and being quite lazy) he hired an assistant, that ended up being Stephen Merchant. XFM got taken over, the new bosses let them go, Ricky and Steve created “The Office” TV show to huge acclaim. XFM asked them to come back, they agreed but only on the condition that they didn’t have to do any real work like pressing the buttons and running their show, so XFM provided them with another XFM employee to do the work, someone from the production department - it was Karl Pilkington. Ricky and Steve would talk to Karl off air, realised he was hilarious so brought him on air as their 3rd man. After a few years they all left together to start their own podcasts, which were a success. HBO then gave them a TV show, where they took the podcasts and animated their real conversations as cartoons called “The Ricky Gervais Show”, which are well worth a reaction 😉 they then made a show called “An Idiot Abroad” which is basically Karl travelling the world, every aspect of his trips are organised by Ricky and Steve and are made to be as miserable as possible for Karl, also well worth a reaction 😉
