Squid jig $30, 3 kilos of squid at Spud Shed, less than $30... Hope the jig catches a lot of squid.. (Should have watched further before making that comment). One reason I rarely spend more than $8 on a jig LOL
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
LOL, I agree with you 100%. Most of the times im using squid jigs between $10 and $20. Some of my favourites are Rui squid jigs, and Asari squid jigs which cost $10 each. I agree its extravagant when the jig cost more then what it does to buy the target species from the local fish store.

Nice way to spend Aussie day mate. I know the pain of losing squid jigs, both to snags and much much worse, leaving the case on the side of the boat, then driving off. Sadly, and to my lasting regret, that is what I did about a year ago. Approximately 100 jigs gone. I'm still not over it either.
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Ouch yeah that would be so much worse losing a full case of squid jigs. Really sorry to hear that. I bet some decent ones in there too. Thankfully i only lost the 1 jig that day and in typical style the squid would only take the pink jig and wouldn't touch the greens or golds LOL.
@Doodsy1975

@@fishingmad yeah, lots of those expensive Gan Crafts and custom made ones from Japan. It still hurts. Those pink jigs are always the best I reckon. And the whites.
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Oh no, I can only imagine you would have had some top notch jigs too. Very sorry to hear that. It can add up very quickly especially when half the jigs cost between $20 and $40. Those Gan Craft ones though did look and feel so nice. Which brand would be your favourite. For some reason i always end up going back to the yamashita live in pink and rainbow.
@Doodsy1975
@Doodsy1975 3 жыл бұрын
@@fishingmad yep, the Gan Crafts are very pretty, but to be honest, I rarely caught a squid on any of em. My go to jigs are the Yamashita Naeba Pink Live warm jacket and the white Shimano Sephia, in 3.0

Hey mate, what an awesome way to spend Australia Day! Most of my jigs are around the same price range as the one you lost, I fish for squid a lot and got sick of losing expensive jigs so I switched to 1.0 PE braid with 20 pound fluorocarbon leader. I was a bit sceptical to start with thinking I was fishing to heavy and would reduce my catch rate but that was not the case and I am able to recover 90% of my snagged jigs . Any way just a thought , great video 👍
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Martin, thats an awesome tip !! Very slowly I have been fishing with heavier line and more expensive line with thinner diameter. Makes a lot of sense what you are saying. ill look into it 100%.

hey Alan, I was just wondering what is the minimum safety equipment required to fish the bay via kayak
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
Great question the requirements are quite basic a type 2 level 50 life jacket, a paddle, either a floating bucket or manual billage pump and that's about it. I wrote this web article whch you might find helpful fishingmad.com.au/article/lifejacket-safety-rules-victoria I would highly recommend watching this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/aYvWg5ubjt-jnbM i think the most important safety aspects is understanding the weather conditions and understanding the stability limitations of your yak. Often the more expensive yaks are more stable. I hope that helps
