Built in the early 20th Century, but left to ruins, we are today exploring the remains of what was the Australia Hall in Pembroke, Malta.
A large Fire broke out about 25 years ago which left this building roof-less and open to all elements. A building which was in the midst of some controversy about its future, and which then belonged to the Malta Labour Party. Some nice Drone shots are included.
Adjacent to it is a large Water Cistern, which was discovered during some excavation works carried out while preparing for the foundations of a future new Chinese Embassy in Malta.
We have Exclusive footage and photos of this Cistern, which we also reported to the Superintendance of Cultural Heritage for further protection and conservation.
Hope you all enjoy this adventure, and learn something from it as well. We did ;)

Testimonial Charles Stroud … I remember the Australia Hall when it was still fully functional as a Cinema and Theatre. My father was stage manager for the variety show entertainment troupes that came to Malta to entertain the British services and their families. I would stand backstage and follow the show from the wings, meeting all the top British singers and performers and helping set up the stage and lights. …… If that was between 1958 (crca) and 1964, iwas standing backstage during the live shows.

As far as I know my father was involved between 1952 and 1964. He toured with the shows in Malta, Cyprus, North Africa, and sometimes also in Germany. His first contact with the Hall was way back in 1939. Together with other soldiers from the Devonshire regiment he had stayed out late and as a punishment they were ordered to clear out the Australia Hall which was reduced to a store of useful rubbish. They cleared it out than decided to put it to good use by putting on a variety show themselves That is how he got interested in theatre.

Testimonial Victor Fenech … I remember the place in its heydays. I had a close friend who worked with the Services and was naturally a card holder. He sometimes invited me as his guest, and there I remember seeing top British entertainers, as also some films otherwise banned from local cinemas by our pompous state censors. The place today is a complete shambles. It should be returned to the state and revived as a cultural centre.

ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL & HISTORIC BUILDING GOES TO RUINS 😔. Shame about all those graffiti - it's criminal damage. A couple of NGOs in Australia started campaigns "Restoration Of Australia Hall Project" but nothing really materialised to date. Conrad, you DON'T need to apologise because I believe the said NGOs approached the "Australian Government" for help towards funding the restoration of the hall but they were turned down - "Govt. Not Interested" obviously. It's surprising because at the same time the sum of "$500Million" was voted/allocated towards the War Memorial "upgrade" in Canberra.Think about it 🤔. THANKS Conrad 🚶⛑ 🎥 👏. Cheers 👍 🇲🇹 ♥ 🇪🇺 ™
