We only have a few days left to get the word out and encourage Australians to sign the petition to take a stand against 1080 poison and put a stop to destroying our only top order predator, the iconic Australian Dingo.
Here is the link to sign the petition:
www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/pe...
Warning: There are some graphic clips used in this video. But sadly, it's a reality for our Australian Dingo. We also hear from a vet in the Pilbara region, a rescuer on the front line and a researcher changing history.
Footage used in this video is with thanks to a wonderful film maker named Harry who is currently filming and creating an incredible documentary called 'On The Fence'. To watch more and support this very important project please head over to:
/ onthefencefilm1
Thank you to Machelle from Highlands Dingo Rescue for sharing Sassy Rose's incredible story of survival and for the amazing work Machelle does in saving many Dingoes affected by this poison. If you would like to find out more about this rescue and their important work:
/ machelle.v.cartner
If you would like to hear from some trail blazing landowners who are not killing Dingoes and are benefiting from letting Dingoes coexist please click here:

Here is a link to the petition again:

PLEASE NOTE it is really important when you add your signature you need to go back to your email to confirm your intent to sign.
Thank you so very much for watching, sharing and signing.
Many thanks to Jen Parker, a well respected Dingo advocate in the Dingo community, at Aussie Canis Dingo DAY, who is on the committee for this, also thanks to Monte Ling who has initiated this petition. Jen’s great knowledge and experience on this topic and her love and commitment for our Australian Dingo is inspiring. It has inspired us here at the farm. Her page is here:

Forty years ago, I couldn’t imagine koalas disappearing from the landscape, but here we are. It’s long overdue to show respect to the dingoes and other creatures that shape our hostile Australian environment. Can’t be thumping our chests with pride for our Aussie animals when we are letting interest groups and governments destroy them and their habitats. Great video, spoken from the heart Luke with your gorgeous Cruiser.

I wrote a letter to advocate for the dingo since I’m not a resident. Using the plight of how we here in the US have treated the wolves and how they were almost completely decimated and the impact this had on the ecosystem. I gave a summary of what took place as advocates were able to plead with leaders to reintroduce them into the wild into a national park and how in three short years the amazing transformation of the ecosystem there changed. Doing the research into Australia’s history and relationships with the dingos helped, in my opinion how they may be able to recognize the dingos play an important role to Australia and its own ecosystem. I also let them know as an outsider I saw the dingo as an intricate part of Australia culture and wildlife just the same as the kangaroos and koalas. Hopefully others will take the time to send off a letter to them. They need to know people around the world recognize the dingo being as important as the other wildlife they promote being uniquely their own.

@@stephaniehollis2816 When I was in elementary school back in the 70s we were taught the geography, the culture and history of the countries. My favorites were the cultures and the animals. Africa was always known for their wide array of different animals but Australia was always the coolest because of the diversity and potential danger. We learned about the koalas, kangaroos, wallabies, and this odd bird called a kookaburra. Sitting in a gum tree, mighty, mighty king of the bush is he. I can still hear that silly little rhyme in my head and was so happy when I was finally able to actually hear one. We were taught about the dingos and they were Australia’s wild dogs like our wolves, coyotes, and foxes. Unfortunately as I grew older they were portrayed as these marauders who were intent on killing with one movie about dingos killing babies. Once Hollywood gets involved in storytelling facts exit the story very quickly. I fell prey to this but I kept going back to clips of them and how much they reminded me of the coyotes here in the US. They do what wild dogs do, hunt. Whether they’re domesticated wild dogs or wild dogs such as foxes or coyotes, they’re going to be opportunists and grab what they can. When I saw Cruiser I was on high alert. I saw him crouched down in the cage with his ears pinned back, his needle sharp teeth with that long snout and my first thoughts were, “this is not good.” I don’t know what Luke is going to do with this and I hope he doesn’t get hurt too much. Seeing Cruiser, hearing the plight of the dingos, the inconsistencies in the laws in the various territories regarding their wellbeing and the collective governance of how these animals are treated. I started doing more research and then when Sam would provide us with more information I would find myself finding out more horrifying information. The links she provided today took me to additional places but it also backed up points in my letter. The satellite views of where the dingo fences were in comparison to what the satellite imagery showed with what Yellowstone National Park looked like before the wolves were reintroduced to the area and what the national park looked like the years afterwards. Advocates were the champions for the scientists to go out there and prove what we already knew here. The wolves were not a huge threat to ranchers livestock but the ranchers needed to change how they protected their livestock and realize protecting their livestock didn’t mean poisons, traps, or just going out on hunting sprees were going to be the answer. Federal fines, penalties, and protection were put in place. This allowed the wolves to be taken off of the endangered species list and they have expanded farther out more quickly than they had thought they could. Of course ranchers are going to do what they want but they will have to decide if it’s worthwhile to hunt wolves because they don’t want to have to consider alternatives such as livestock guarding dogs. It’s appalling to me that a country such as Australia would use such a deadly weapon against one species and be willing to wipe out all of their wildlife, domesticated animals, and children. I just don’t understand. When I saw what they did to poison the dingos before the wildfires were out! I’m so shocked, confused, and disappointed. I’m devastated at the loss of Australia from the wildfires but they’re still trying to poison dingos before the fires are out? I just wanted to reach out to someone who may be able to help me understand why Australia has such a strong stance on one wildlife species. Thank you for supporting Sam and Luke not only on this issue but as a member of the community as well. Thank you 🙏

It is awful what they are doing to these animals. At one point in America’s history we killed off all our wolves too and then we saw that that was not such a bright thing to do either, so several years ago they were put some back to where they belong…in nature.

How they did that was to introduce a few wolf packs from Canada into the U.S. (Montana and Idaho) It took quite a while, but the numbers grew, and they spread out across the country. However, we are a stupid lot, and history tends to repeat. Currently there are some States that have reinstated Wolf hunts. They are, by law, only done by permit... well, guess how well that has gone? Not well. Those States are learning the hard way that man can't be trusted. Entire packs are being killed. 😢 It's so sad, and entirely unnecessary. This is why I signed the Australian petition against the use of 1080. I emailed a letter as well. I may be an American, but I can certainly do my part as a person of this planet we all live on.

Absolutely heartbreaking to think that in this day and age, when there are proven alternatives to help both sheep, cattle and dingoes survive together, man resorts to cruelty. There is enough scientific evidence that if you wipe out apex predators, their loss affects every single animal, plant and the balance of the environment. Thanks Luke for making this video. As an American I can't sign the petition, but I did follow the link and e-mailed (politely) my thoughts and opinion on the use of 1080. We can all speak up for Cruiser and his fellow dingoes. When we first arrived in Tasmania we were alerted to the farmers in the area we were staying at laying 1080 baits to eradicate the fox problem! There are no foxes in Tasmania. The only fox carcass that has been found here was planted from the mainland! 1080 is as vile as the people who use it.

For those sharing this video or other important animal issues, a great avenue for sharing important animal information needing attention is your local veterinarian office and animal emergency hospital . This is so sad! Cruiser is a great ambassador for the dingos. I’m here in Southern California and we have a similar issue with coyotes. So many people hate them. It’s all so sad. I try to educate people but the hatred is so ingrained. We can coexist with wild animals. Thank you for speaking up for the dingo. I hope things change for those wonderful animals. ❤ Coyotes sound very similar to Dingos. They also mate for life and form small family groups. We used to have a coyote family who established their territory in the nature reserve behind our house. I loved seeing them and especially when the pups came out of the den. One day we heard gunshots and haven’t seen them again. It’s so upsetting. They have culling in other states but it’s illegal in California. People still shoot them or poison them though. It’s heartbreaking. I’ve so enjoyed learning about the dingos and seeing Cruiser. Thank you for all you do for canines. ❤

Great explanation from Luke. You can see how ill judged intervention has made matters worse in other countries time and time again, and has had knock on effects on other native animals. We need to protect indigenous species, not obliterate. The cruelty against dingoes is appaling. It would be great to be able to sign this petition... I live in Ireland.

Well done Luke & Sam, great evidence-based argument for dingos and very well presented👍🐾 I didn’t know about the beneficial impact on the environment when dingos are present naturally and when farmers let them exist alongside their livestock, that is fascinating!🌳🌳🌳

What my Dingo, Ernie, reckons. "Australia needs an insurance fund for Dingo predation. Where by, if you can prove a Dingo did it, you are compensated for the loss. As the pack structure will take at least 5 years to reform. Takes five years to be a fully mature alpha Dingo. I am 3 and a half years old and am still learning. While young Dingoes are maturing into pack leaders, there will be excessive predation. One has to deal with the fact that Apex predators are killers and opportunist. An easy kill is an easy kill and will be repeated. Unguarded sheep are an easy kill and you can't hold the predators responsible. The responsible party is the livestock owner. In parts of the world where there are wolves, Guardian animals and Shepard's are part of the management. Dingoes are Australia's wolves and as proven in re wilding of the environment every one benefits in the long run. Australia is not good with long term thinking. It only took a couple hundred years to ruin the land that First Nation people managed for 60,000 years. Once pack structure and territory are settled and alpha males and females are running the show, excessive predation will dissipate. It is the interim period that will be difficult. The propaganda spread by farmers will take time to prove wrong. Calling Dingoes wild dogs for starters needs to change. Dingoes are not dogs they are a genus of their own, Canus Dingo. They are a native Australian species and should be protected as such. The Dingo Predation Compensation Fund will assist farmers in the transition period. Farm practice needs to change as mentioned in the video. Guardian dogs or donkeys can be used as well as fencing and electrified systems. The big whinge from the farming lobby is the cost of Dingo predation and the costs associated with dealing with it. Access to Compensation should alleviate those issues. Make no mistake, if you stop killing Dingoes and protect them but don't change farming practice, there will be predation increases. Initially, the costs will be high but should be regarded as an investment in the future. What I want as a Dingo is : Recognition of Native Animal status. Protection from hunters Banning of 1080 baiting. My parents were murdered by 1080. I was lucky to be rescued. Properly fenced sheep and patrolled paddocks to discourage younger Dingoes from discovering how easy it is to kill sheep. Guardian animals mandatory for grazing enterprise. For that, Dingoes will : Eliminate, Foxes, Rabbits, Goats and Cats from Australia. Manage the Flora and Fauna back to pre invasion status. Come on Australia we can do it " 🐾Regards Ernie

Thank you for speaking for these beautiful animals and working to rid Australia of 1080 poison. As education continues may those who are misinformed about the Dingo learn that they are necessary and actually beneficial to their farm life.

The plight of the dingos brought tears to my eyes. They are such beautiful animals and important to the ecosystem. If I lived in Australia I would sign the petition and urge my neighbors to do the same. I hope your lawmakers wake up to this horrible destruction of these important animals.

Really great video. Let's hope it makes an impact on getting this brutal practice of poisoning dingoes to end. ❤ from Brisbane Australia. My family have cattle on 2 separate properties on Sunshine Coast and out past Gympie. Wild dog packs can be a problem when calves are born and while they are still quite small. My family never use baits but rely on shotguns to reduce stock loss and move the packs along. I'm told that these packs are mostly mixed breeds of dogs that have formed packs. Rather than pure dingo small family packs.
