Unfortunately this change by the government has been caused by many students from India applying for university in Australia, under the guise of education and then when they arrive in the country are choosing to get a job in order to earn money and not attending their University course. The government is aware that they never had intention to study and have entered the country under a lie in order make money to send back home. I have been an international student at the university of Western Australia from 2020 to 2023 and due to the pandemic and several health conditions i had, I completed only 1 year's course load and recently applied for a 2 years student visa. Unfortunately, it was refused and I applied for a second student visa and it has been 20 days already. My course started this week and if the decison maker takes any more time, I might have to defer another semester resulting in me losing 2 years. Furthermore, I showed about 70,000 AUD in my finances indicating that I have sufficient funds to live about 2 years in Australia. Oh well, Australia's decision makers are stealing about 42 billion dollars from rejected applicants blatantly like that shows how much the country cares

Im sorry but health problems aside, it doesn't sound like you made any progress with your studies. One can't blame the pandemic given people still completed studies via other methods. Everything opened up at the end of 2021. What were you doing for the 2 years since where everything was opened and back to normal? Its 2024. COVID pandemic was about a year and a half to 2 years maximum. Why are you saying you have health problems which prevented you from completing 2 years out of a 3 years of studies but then want to go for another student visa.

Also its not about having money. It is about being an actual student and being a GTE (genuine temporary entrant). Chances are you had that 70,000 from working instead of actually studying (completing 1 year out of 3 years of study is abysmal). You are here for PR but are just studying whatever you can to extend your stay in Australia, and this is the reason why there is an attack on actual genuine students

This is excellent news. There are far, far too many international students in Australia, the vast majority of whom are here for work rights and not to study. There should be zero work rights to international graduates from Australian universities - then you will see the ones who really want to study. We need international students here but only about 20% of the number we currently have. This is a step in the right direction but the crackdown needs to be much bigger. Good news anyway.

Its a bit false information. Govt doesn't divide universities in L1,2 &3. It is the ratio of visa grant vis a vis total applications made to a University. It is a statistical analysis which ranges from 1 to 3. There are the G8 universities which are considered Tier 1 universities and then there is RMIT,, Swinburne etc which are in the similar loop. G8 universities include Melb Uni, UNi SA , Monash etc. Applying to G8, yes, your visa chances are considerably high because the way they assess your application is very robust and rigorous. Most applicants from Punjab and Haryana, dont even see their applications pass through first round of scrutiny. So you wont even get an admission so forget about visa. If you do get an admission then visa is more or less confirmed and that happens with students lets say from Maharashtra, Karnataka etc. Now comes the fees. Most Punjab and Haryana students come from very poor socio-economic background. Literally bhikaaris trying to escape punjab. Cheap fellas. Now, most people know that. Plus the risk of applying for asylum is high everytime there is a farmers protest. Asylum takes away close to 40% from University points and nobody wants to risk it. So Punjoo turbanators, stay home. If you haven't studied there, you are not going to do anything here either. Australia wants to clean up the junk and rightly so.
