Been buying a few Zman soft plastics lately in anticipation for a few weeks of heavy fishing for bream mulloway and any other bycatch!!! Very good advice mate keenly watching more of your videos as I prepare to start my soft plastic journey. I think pearl and motor oil seems like a good start

Totally agree with you Justin. Years ago I order 4 packs of 2.5 grubz in motor oil online. The tackle shop made a mistake sent a pack midnight in the order. First day fishing them we caught bream after bream. This is now my go to colour for all shape and sizes in Zman plastics.

Interesting. A recent e-newsletter from TT discussed ZMan plastics with UV & the Pro Cure UV range. This UV topic is not mumbo jumbo it works. Be interesting to see how the sales graph looks over the next few weeks regarding sale of ZMan Midnight Oil colour lures.

interesting that UV is considered a factor... what prey or what foods for fish in nature actually emit UV light?
@peterRobinson10101 Жыл бұрын
just a noob question but wouldnt some fish see a glowing uv fish as a threat not a meal? and which fish do and dont?

The general tone or shade of a lure can make a difference to how visible a lure is but lure colour is not as important as is made out here. Fishes brains are so tiny that its not possible for them to process colour like we do. Lure manufacturers make so many colours to sell more lures. When he says "some species will prefer a pink lure" - that is absolute rubbish. When you sell lures for a living you get all these different customers saying this colour's the best and that colour's the best. Its like you're doing a constant survey on lure colour preferences by listening to all the customers. And after 26 years of doing this, all I can say is what you need to worry about is tone and contrast, not the actual colour. When we do well on a particular lure, we anthropomorphise and assume its the colour thats made the fish choose it, because that's why we chose it!. Anyway, in a nutshell, there's no best colour. The bestcolour is the one you've got tied on. When everyone starts fishing with the same colour because of hype they read on the net, obviously that's what they'll catch all the fish on. I've been challenged to a few lurecolour shoot-outs over the years and on all occasions the person who thought they had some killer colour has finished the end of the day fishing with me a bit demoralised ! So just remember everyone, you've just watched an Advertisement.

Great video, especially the rod and cone information about fish eyes, I never knew that and it makes a helluva lot of sense. Cheers !
@markrigg66234 жыл бұрын
The problem is they are vestigial cones, they are not that well developed and the brain they are connected to is tiny. Evolution is an ongoing thing and the cones are not working the way ours do. As I remember being taught at uni, its a bit like the nipples on a males chest . They are there, but they don't do anything! Be careful learning science of Queenslanders trying to sell things. Think in tones, and the way colours contrast against the background. Its how visible a lure is, not what colour it is . Theres a big difference.

Not sure how far sunlight penetrates dirty water especially on an overcast day. You’re using crystal clear very shallow water to demonstrate. Then there’s wind chop which would also effect light penetrating the water. Not sold on UV?

When you shine the light on the plastic UV is being absorbed and emitted in the visible spectrum. The plastics arent emitting UV light so this totally doesnt really make any sense to me. We cant see UV light, so what you're seeing isnt UV light.
@markrigg66234 жыл бұрын
Yes you're actually quite right mate. We only see the visible wavelengths adjacent to to the invisible uv spectrum. So him talking about people playing with torches in tackle stores shows he doesn't really understand. I've got a zoology degree and he's got some of the science wrong in this advertisement. The big thing however is that most uv wavelengths are filtered out when they pass through a clear medium, like WATER. ! Interesting you didn't get a reply......
@leonardbrown15124 жыл бұрын
I find it interesting that sponsored marketing people grab a bit on information about physics and science and then pretend to be subject matter experts. The reality is people don't know how fish see. We know the structure of their eyes thats it. We are not in their brains so how can anyone make claims about how fish view UV. The spectrum of light is very complex so is movement and vibration underwater. Dont be fooled by marketing about UV I believe it is about 1% worth when it comes to fish bite activity.
@soobz4 жыл бұрын
Good statement, however the science that makes sense to me is UV light at a depth of several meters is perhaps 50% of all the light (red-orange will be gone) and so something that reacts to UV light could make the lure more visible.

I realise your intentions with these videos is to inform however in my opinion, all this business with UV light and UV light torches and different colours in different types of water would only serve to confuse and discourage the angler considering to delve into the wonderous world of lures and soft plastics. You lost me after 6 minutes and I love lure fishing.
