A question for commentary. Part of the rationale behind the car industry that was developed after WW2. My understanding was that it was initiated to develop a manufacturing base in a country that lacked sufficient manufacturing capacity to the detriment of Australia when Japan entered the war.

John, you're living in the past if you think Australian society remains basically decent, you only have to see the LW reaction on social media to Molan's death & the lukewarm response of his political opposites in offering condolences. The old ways are gone & conservatives are still trying to fight a political-culture war according to 'rules of engagement' that no longer exist. You pay too much respect to bad people with bad motives, bad intentions & bad ideas.

Any Australian who knows their history should be well acquainted with global empires moving across the pacific. The British, the French, the Dutch, the Spanish, the Portuguese, the Americans, the Japanese. The one that's still in effect now is of course America, Jim Molan's "Great and powerful friend" . It often amazes me that Australians think there is some sort of difference between being the ally of a great and powerful friend and being the vassal state of a global empire, there just isn't. There is an enormous amount that Australia can do to ensure her own defense but that means getting out from under Washington and developing her own capacity on her own shores.

Every physically capable male over sixteen should be issued with a stock army rifle and 200 to 300 rounds of ammunition, plus training in its use and a certain amount of basic military training under the authority of regular army personnel to ensure military discipline. Wouldn't be much use against nuclear weaponry, but an invasion would be difficult.
@jakedee4117 Жыл бұрын
I like the idea of a citizen's militia (or whatever you want to call it) but it needs to be a lot more than just men with rifles. It needs to be integrated into a much larger system. A few weeks a year spent training on things like emergency search and rescue, learning how to maintain vehicles and equipment and so on. My idea would look much more like volunteer fire fighters, many trained men with a few full time professionals that could be quickly mobilized in a time of national emergency.
@briangc6104 Жыл бұрын
@@jakedee4117 I thought "training in its use and a certain amount of basic military training under the authority of regular army personnel to ensure military discipline" would cover that.
@jakedee4117 Жыл бұрын
@@briangc6104 To a large degree yes, but my point is that apart from the actual war fighting every part of the military has a direct civilian equivalent. Arrange the training of the citizens militia in such a way that those skills can be seamlessly and quickly folded into the military once the mobilization comes. Truck stops and garages become motor pools, hotels and restaurants become barracks and mess halls, hospitals and ambulances , well that's obvious. A truck driver or mechanic doing some volunteer work with the militia (could give him tax breaks or special discounts for that) would need to spend some time with basic weapons and tactics but the country would get much better use out of him if he spent more time working with military vehicles and their particular supply chains rather than working out how to fire a howitzer. I guess this sort of thing is already being done to an extent, but I would just like to see a lot more of it.

The first step towards an effective military is a well armed public! Australia has little hope with the majority of the country anti gun due to relentless leftist bashing in the media. Even old women in many countries know how to handle a firearm. Here in USA the much of the public has served military or first responders being the global police for 80 years. Enter at your own risk! People here can fight and they can shoot. Australians, not so much. Its a huge problem. Decades of de masculinity of boys and girls is going to bite us, and all those frumpy women with red rimmed spectacles on the ABC panels are going to have much to answer for

Remember that Molan planned, oversaw and directed the Battle of Fallujah in 2004. A battle famous for the wide spread and well documented alleged War Crimes committed by U.S. Troops under his command. 50 000 civilians were intentionally cut off from food, water and medical services. The situation was so severe that the United Nation’s Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Jean Ziegler, stated that the Coalition had used ‘hunger and deprivation of water as a weapon of war against the civilian population [in] flagrant violation’ of the Geneva Conventions. Specifically Article 14, which clearly states that cutting off water, electricity, and denying access to humanitarian aid is considered to be a war crime. Lie with (U.S.) dogs and pick up fleas.
