We are not all millionaires and for people who get a pension they should look at how much it takes to generate just one pension. @@Iononso no in Australia there is no concept of pension related to a job. The old age pension was introduced in 1908 by Australian government, but some states had a state based one before then. This is subject to a wealth test, but the home you live in does not count in that. Since 1992 there has also been compulsory superannuation contributions from employers, but these accounts are still owned by the individuals not employers, but can’t be accessed until certain ages.

If pensioners are able to earn money whilst in retirement, then they're very lucky. For pension eligible people residing off shore at the time they turn 65--67 and remain there, they are not permitted to receive the aged pension at all. Lots of it. After another stint in the RAN, when they needed me, I legged it overseas, where my wife comes from. Her family looked after me. Now at 3 score years and 10 none of the bastard politicians or public servants at Centerlink will even speak to me! True! I am the enemy. Did more than my time. But.
