@@mfitz1991 That’s just because Australia’s a bigger economy. This mismatch is the same with Canadians living in the USA, Uruguayans living in Argentina or Brazil, or Austrians living In Germany. Even if (hypothetically) the Australian economy collapsed and the NZ economy took off and overtook it; that would still be the case. It’s not that one is better than the other, it’s just that Australia will always have more employment positions and career opportunities.

As a Kiwi I think the helping the neighbors thing comes from our isolation and smallish population. Not just as Nation but for many New Zealanders for a long time, especially in rural areas if there was an emergency or problem, the only people you could rely on for help was your neighbor. It's probably like that in many isolated communities all over the world aswell.

Australia is just as isolated you could well argue more so than NZ depending where you live in Australia. Both countries you need to take a plane to visit another country, the US is shorter for NZ where Europe is shorter for Australia.

1:00 Australia has been much, much more influenced by "expressive" cultures. In the very early days it was primarily the Irish, and later Italian, Greek, Maltese, and Eastern Europeans. So while Kiwis often view Aussies as brash or overconfident, Aussies can find Kiwis a little too reserved, and wonder if they'll ever let loose, and project some personality.

I have lived in both countries. New Zealand born and lived in Australia for 12 years. Both countries have their positives and negatives. Australia better for career and money and entertainment. New Zealand more a relaxed pace of life and in my opinion more accessible to nature and more beautiful scenery. It depends on what type of lifestyle you are looking for but both countries offer a good lifestyle.

Less things to do in nz, crime going up, same as aussie but they’re way of punishing the criminals is more to my liking. Nz is a bit too slow for me, when i lived in aus, it was normal for teens at the age of 13-14 to already be working part time, in nz, not so much. I love my culture and the people but something in this country has shifted in the way we socialise and live now.

I'm British & lived in Australia (Melbourne) for 12yrs, now I'm In New Zealand. There is no comparison .... Australia wins hands down & I'm making plans to return. Aussies are much easier to make friends with than Kiwi's but the one thing i've noticed above everything else in NZ is that they just don't share our humour, they are on a different wavelength which has contributed to my feelings of alienation here, In Australia I fitted right in, they just "Get It" and I made lots of friends in no time whatsoever. Of course that's just my experience, everyone is different.

Really? Because you’re the first British person who’s ever told me that, and I’ve only ever heard the opposite. And furthermore; when I was in the UK it was noticed that Kiwis and Brits had the similar sense of deadpan and dry humour and got the same jokes and puns, while Australians missed them. Aussie humour’s fine, but it’s more like Irish humour, the larrikin style. I think the problem here might be you, not NZ humour.

I think curls gets this just about right. NZ is by all accounts the more welcoming place. Aussie has more people therefore a bit more exciting in the big cities ( Auckland is about as large as Adelaide our 5th biggest city). NZ is more picturesque and scenic in the classic sense but Aussie beautiful in a rugged way. Aussies are more brusque and outwardly less helpful ( although that is in the cities where most live) Aussies don't really care so much what anyone thinks about them and can laugh off criticism more than kiwis, but kiwis are extremely helpful and good people . The wash up is that Aussies and Kiwis are extremely similar and we probably magnify the slight differences.

NZ does not have the same racial tensions between its Indigenous communties as Australia in fact Maori are respected by Pakeha and Pakeha are respected by Maori - although certainly not a perfect relationship but definitely light years ahead of Australia. Also, we need to talk about the elephant in the room - racism. Racism in Australia appears to be more prevalent when you examine its history in comparison to New Zealand from its "Keep Australia white" policies to its infamous Cronulla Riots of summer 2005. I can guarantee you that if someone of colour were to go to country area's in many parts of Australia they would not be as welcome as in rural parts of New Zealand. I've worked with reguee and new immigrant communities as well as Indigenous communities in Australia mainly in country NSW and Country VIC and I was severely shocked to my core at the level of racism in many area's I had to go to - the feedback I received from many of these communities anhyone would of thought it was Mississippi pre-civil rights movement. It is a dirty secret Australian's love to sweep under the carpet.

A good comparison. I will say though that if it wasnt for Australias laws id have moved over there ages ago. Half of whats in my closet is illegial in OZ but legal in NZ. I do wish NZ would get a lower profile and stay out of world conflicts. Being all the way ovee here is only good if we dissapear from the world conscience.

Does that mean I like OZ better? Nope cos those laws are a big one. I prefer living in a country with less laws and less red tape. I'd definitely live in OZ as a second home and for traveling. Love Brisbane, love the heat and I find Australian ppl really friendly.

Sorry NZ does not have “so much work to do” with Maori people specifically- there are disadvantaged people of course but these are all races. Similarly with aboriginal people in Aus. There have now been decades of preferential opportunities for these groups, which are escalating.

Australia does not have better restaurants than New Zealand, it's just that Australia has more restaurants than New Zealand. This has to do with the fact that Australia has five times as many people, but also they have more spare cash, like he says, so people tend to dine out more. There are many restaurants in Auckland that are world class. Wellington might be pretty shit, like he says, but somewhere else like Christchurch (rebuilt after the earthquake) has outstandingly good restaurants.

I think you have a little recency NZ bias!! Australia has more and better food but I'm going to give it to NZ because hell they're smaller and try hard. NZ is the most unique country in the world...huh? Australia is officially one of a handful of megabiodiverse countries with many, many plants and animals totally endemic and far more the NZ. Unless I am missing something not sure how you can rate NZs uniqueness above Aust. BTW,,,this is just Aussie vs NZ banter...it is what we do!! both are amazing places.

New Zealnd until 120 million years ago was under water when it broke off Aus-Antartica. Thats why there is very little wildlife. Australia is the oldest continet with lanscapes up to 4.5 billion years old. Is Australia's not unique, it has landscapes, flora and fauna mostly found nowhere else on earth. What continent is covered by a huge varity if Eucalyptus trees. New Zealand looks just looks like countless other countries with mounaitns, volcanoes and glaciers. There is little to no wildlife, 85% of their fauna is invasive and you can't compete for diversity of wildlife or landscapes comparing a small country to an entitre continent running through several climatic zones. Australia is one of the most important coutries for biodiversity, thats why scientist flock there to research the place.
