Australia Visa Restrictions for Migrants and Students in 2024 | Australia Visa Update
In an effort to stop the problem of visa hopping, which refers to the practice of Australia temporary visa holders extending their stay through repeated visa applications, the Australian government has proposed major reforms to its Australia immigration system. Tightening visa requirements and preserving system integrity are the goals of these amendments. An increasing number of former overseas students who are residing in Australia on a permanent temporary basis can be attributed to visa hopping. Together with additional actions, these modifications will aid in closing this gap and ending this behavior. Holders of Australia temporary graduate visas will either need to leave Australia or pursue alternative immigration options, such as those that might allow them to stay permanently.
Applicants that are on Australia visitor visas who want to study will have to apply for their Australia visa from outside of Australia. Those who truly wish to study in Australia and apply from outside Australia will be granted an Australian student visa if they match the requirements. The main changes and limitations to the Australia visa program that will take effect on July 1, 2024, are highlighted in this video. In order to stop the abuse of Australia visitor visas for extended stays, holders of visitor visas will no longer be allowed to switch to Australia student visas while in Australia.

Are you indirectly referring that non Aussies in Australia, should be categorized as second class citizens ? Every country treats their people well, including Australia. Immigrants are backbone of the economies of the rich world. And for that backbone if our govts have to take some steps to ensure if they are fairly compensated for working in their countries, then what's wrong with that ? Because of the same immigrants and outsourcing, we are able to access services much cheaper. But problem with native population is that , they want it both ways at the same time.

Great move Australia its about time the government started tightening up on the people who are rorting the temporary visa system. The number of foreigners here on temporary visas is out of control especially student visas and a lot more needs to be done to cut levels back to a number that the infrastructure can handle. We do not need more unskilled workers we need people with specific skills and they should be applying through the normal permanent mmigration channels not trying to take short cuts by manipulating our temporary visa system.

If they're bringing their big money into Australia, who cares, it's is a major export opportunity. Instead of maximising the benefit to Australia, we just added a bunch of incomprehensible rules that nobody can understand.
@pebblepod30
@pebblepod30 Ай бұрын
@xpusostomos No, immigrants with big money are the absolute worst for Australian Public, because they just makes Housing more unaffordable because that is what they buy - inc multiple investment properties in cash. My own family did this too, good for me, but it's terrible for the country.
@xpusostomos
@xpusostomos Ай бұрын
@@pebblepod30 what, you want poor immigrants who'll want social housing and rent subsidies? You have a false scarcity view of the world... The only scarcity in housing is caused by government regulation... People who invest in housing provide a rental property and directly or indirectly cause more housing to be built. Of course this is a different issue to how many immigrants we want and can absorb in a particular time frame. One could make an argument we don't need immigrants at all ... But if we are to have them, rich ones are the best... They also tend to have businesses and other skills that will help the country. In principle, building big apartment blocks is a fantastic export business... We're not really short of land, you can fit a billion dollars of real estate on a fairly modest sized block of land, you don't even have to bother shipping the export out of the country, and then you can tax it forever. It's a beautiful thing.

There should be some investigation on these IT consulting companies as well. They keep alive job postings and conduct fake interviews for the Australians here and after that they just onboard someone from offshore on less salary. I have been watching this trend from long time. Dept should do a random feedback from people who were rejected showing that company is not getting skilled workers locally.

I agree, now these IT people in suits walking around city might be getting < $A100, whereas the actual salary should be $A170++, therefore my son is still looking for a job, Australian born, studied at Uni Syd, done other IT linked studies at UTS, plus researcher, writer, developer, currently studying BioMed Engineering, fluency in Japanese, German, & can speak little bit of Hindi, so forth and its hard for him to get employment after leaving contracted job as Business Analyst at a TV Station in Artarmon, he just cant apply for any other jobs because he is over qualified, and don't stand a chance, so these people with less qualified than him get jobs so easily, whereas he is trying hard to get a job in his field & waiting for months, this is not fair

You would want any visitor or immigrant to Australia to follow Australian values as specified in the Australian Values Statement. This involves people making reasonable efforts to learn English if this is not their native language. The Australian Values Statement includes "parliamentary democracy" whereby laws are determined by parliaments elected by the people, those laws being paramount and overriding any other inconsistent religious or secular “laws”.

English Language Competency. Yeah, there are plenty of students in Australian universities who do not even possess basic English skills, let alone the skills needed to complete their studies. How did they get here? They purchased their language certificate. Maybe this should have a crackdown on, instead of increasing the language requirements. They will just buy better certificates. I also love it when I meet a delivery guy and I ask him something and his response is: "Sorry, no Engish". My classes will commence quite soon on 22nd July and I've lodged my online application with all the required documentation (which they've confirmed is in order) since 8th February. Contacted immigration several times and the response I got was that there's no specific maximum timeframe except the stated timelines of when 50% and 90% of applications are expected to be processed. For this month it's 41 days (for 50% to be assessed) and 3 months (for 90%). Note, their processing timelines changes every month. I've exceeded 4 months already. I guess patience is a much needed virtue 😂

Thats not guaranteed in fact its getting harder and harder for peopkle coming on student visas to gain PR. Australians are getting angry with the number of immigrants coming into the country this way and the government will be forced the cut numbers even further or risk losing office at the next election.

Graduates whose skills are needed in Australia & contribute to the Australian society should be allowed to stay, after their graduation. For example Nursing students who graduated & is a registered nurse, should be allowed to stay. They can apply for residency & citizenship eventually. This kind of skill are always needed as our aging population grows.

Trouble is we already have qualified nurses who are pushed out of jobs so that the pipeline of new graduates can be maintained. This is the same in many fields. Nobody wants to turn of the tap from higher international student fees, gov incentives for student placements etc.

No they should not be allowed to stay the same rules must apply to everyone, if you have taken the advantage of studying and graduating in your specific field that's great that's why these students came to Australia choosing to live permanently here is a a whole new situation and the Law of the land says you must apply through the appropriate channels and that means applying FROM the country of your nationality, these are the rules they must be respected.
