Andrew symonds thought harbajan singh called him monkey, but harbajan said maaki (a hindi word), after that match harbajan got punished with a penalty of (half of the match earnings). In immediate next match this was happened to Andrew symonds from the crowd.. crowd was so emotional for the penalty against harbajan, with out having his mistake in reality. (Conclusion: Andrew heard it wrong...harbajan got punished...crowd became emotional )

What I remember of that Harbhajan and Symonds incident - Harbhajan said: "Maa ki" (Hindi curse word), Symond heard & complained about "Monkey" And everything blew up. It all happened in the 116th over where Harbhajan would say “hard luck” for Brett Lee after an edge flew over the slip cordon for a 4. However, Symonds did not want an opposition player meddling with his player and was hurling abuses at Harbhajan. Harbhajan, would then retaliate and say “Teri Maa Ki…”. (hindi) Symonds, mistook this as “The Monkey” and that was it, it was termed as a racial comment. What happened with Symonds was unfortunate, but that was not racist or because he was dark-skinned. The Ind-Aus test series in 2008 in Australia was quite intense. A lot of awful umpiring decisions went against India and they were quite distressed. The Australian team then was equally known for being the world's best in cricket as well as in sledging. The sledging was going on for days in the test series and in one such incident Harbhajan Singh reached his boiling point and started fighting back against Symonds. It was during this that Symonds accused Harbhajan of racial abuse by calling him a monkey. It went to trails with the match referee and it was found out that he said "teri maa ki", which translates to 'your mom' (which seems nastier but maybe nasty was the norm in sledging those days). India also filed complaints against biased umpiring which saw the removal of Steve Bucknor. India won the next match but Australia won the series 2-1. The crowd incident was mostly their expression of anger and disappointment that Symonds couldn't take back sledging and India being denied a series win by unfair means.

Age of the players and matches Pant -23 year old with 17 odd matches(87 not out) Gill-21 year old with 3 matches(scored 91) Washington- 21 year old it was his debut (scored match saving 62 in first innings and great cameo of 21 odd in second innings and took 3 wickets) Thakur - 26 year old, this was his second match (scored 67 in first innings and took 7 wickets in two innings) Siraj- 27 year old, his 3rd match( took 5 wickets in second innings, was main subject of racism, lost his father during the tour and still didn't went back and spear headed the inexperienced bowling attack, highest wicket taker for india with 13 wickets) Natrajan -27 year old , debut test( took much needed important 3 wickets in first inning, he was net bowler but due to injuries he had to play, didn't see his newborn daughter due to tour) And we can't forget pujara's contribution, even though experienced and old guy but did he frustrated the Australians. Faced 200+ balls on last day, took 13 body blows in an inning just so he would not nick any ball. These all people were the stars in this test match. What an amazing journey!

Dillion, point is that, racist behaviour from Aus crowd is regular thing faced by all teams. You cited Symonds incident in India which was indeed very shameful from Indian crowd, but happened 14yrs back. Such racist incidents rarely happens in Indian Stadium. And this time a rookie Indian pacers faced it, and many Aus fans called him a liar everywhere and tried to play it down as normal taunt.

The thing is, the incident happend 15 years ago (Oct 2007). Post that many things happend. Be it 2007-2008 India tour of Australia where not only they were racially abused, but also were the victims of deliberate cheating on field (SCG test specifically). And later one of the player (Harbhajan Singh) was falsely accused and banned from playing the last game. This didn't stopped there, and in 2010 there was a massive hate mongering spread all across Australia and which took many a violence incidents against Indian students. So much so that, that Aus PM has to intervene the situation. Later in 2012 and 2014 when India toured Australia, similar sort of things happend. Look I'm not justifying the incident with Symonds (RIP) by discarding it as one of incident happend 15+ years ago. And neither was my intention to counterbalance the whole scenario in favour of Indian players and team by saying that "THEY FACED/SUFFERED MORE". It's just when u brought up the incident that happend that way far (15 years) it just made me to aware people that what happend in subsequent years.

While I don't condone racism in any shape or form, I think Symonds and the other Australians had it coming because the Indian Cricket team has taken shit from the Australian public, media and their cricket team every time they have toured Australia except for probably the 2018-19 tour where Steve Smith, David Warner and one othe guy were banned for ball tampering in a previous series against South Africa. Not defending what Mumbai crowd did with Symonds at all. But you got to know the full story. First the blatant cheating by ponting and Symonds in the 2008 Sydney test match to win the match against India. Everyone knows they wouldn’t have won that match without those cheating incidences. During the same match when Harbhajan and Symonds were sledging each other, Harbhajan said “Teri Maa ki” which is a Hindi slang. Symonds put this into a racial abuse and complained to match referee that Harbhajan called him a monkey. There was going to be serious action taken on Harbhajan for that. After a number of hearings, it was proved that Harbhajan did not call him a monkey. I think you don't have knowledge of test matches. I summarize for you... 1. India is playing in Australia away from domestic conditions. 2. Many regular player is not there. 3.very young and new players are playing 4. The day 5 in Australia is very hard to play or chasing 300+ runs is almost impossible. 5.Australia not lose at Gaba since last 30 years 6 . All players are not batsman in the team who can chase it this target & only 4-5 wicket matter.

Man you don't know anything about test cricket 5th day pitch is always very tough to play for batsman at any venue weather it is your home condition or foreign condition and against this power full and experienced bowling line up this not easy for or any team to chase 320 with this young batsmans and to chase 320 in 5th day of test cricket is never easy on any ground and when the ground is gabba then it's becomes more difficult
