I was at this game...it absolutely poured down, and I guess that was a bit of an equaliser. The Samoans were absolutely brutal. They started their tackles from about 15 yards out, and honestly, the Aussies seemed shell shocked. They would have won had they had a decent kicker on the pitch.

Fricken crazy that I used to look at Peter Fatialofa when I was a kid as a "big man". When I finally became an adult I met him at the airport once and he was so short lol... it's crazy how big your heroes are when you're a kid, then when you grow up and you're 6'5 then they're pretty small... i was pretty surprised when I saw Lomu at school too and we were eye to eye at the same height - thought he'd be bigger...

Very close game 9 by 3. Unforgettable. Back in the 90s. It was live coverage from England to Samoa by the big screen in those days at the Apia park the Samoa national stadium.

This was a fantastic Samoan team and they really lit the 1991 World Cup up. It's sad to hear about the obesity crisis gripping the island today, driven by fatty, poor quality, sugary, addictive imported foods.

Great game, considering the conditions and some dirty deeds on the field. Malo le taaalo. Some old team mates on the field. Some SCOPA boys from 1988 when I was in Samoa for a couple of years from Brisbane living with my father. Played in the Seng Meng Raiders and the Apia Baracudas, alongside some of those Samoan Lads, as well as the usual Rugby Union club games for SCOPA back in 1988, and played against most of those fellas, as well. I never knew these players personally as a 20 year old Aussie Samoan, I wasnt a Palagi for them to have realised that I was actually the only Aussie playing club rugby union and rugby league in Samoa in 1988-89. No one knew who I was except for the Seng Meng Raiders team mates (SCOPA Moataa and Fagalii) and my mother's father's village team of Apia ( My mothers father is a Tuiletufuga from Apia village), so I played for the Barracudas in 1989 in honour of my Grandpa. But, from the Aussie side, Im a Brisbane State High Old Boy and Paul Carozza and Peter Slattery were from State High. I played in the First XV for State High in 1986, A Full Pocket for the GPS fixtures. I was just a Samoan in Samoa and since I wasnt a White Aussie, no one knew that....😂

People criticised Wales for losing to this Samoa team but they were basically at the same level as Australia. Samoa had a string of class players that year.

Actually having to jump in the lineout? Normal sized players. Heavy cotton long sleeved shirts. Happy Days and Samoa getting upset about a tackle around the head area (by accident) unlike Brian Lima. Every time😅
