Australian 2009 Toyota Corolla Ascent Cruise Install

I changed my branding and all my old comments are gone... Here are the parts I used to get you started, check your VIN with the supplier:
Clock Spring 84306-02200
Cruise Lever 84632-34011 (see update below)
**Update: The Chinese cruise lever failed after a short time. Do yourself a favour and grab a genuine lever from wreckers or ebay. An extra 50 bucks will still bring the install well under the manufacturer's optional extra install cost. A lever failure tends not to lock you onto cruise or anything silly like that, your brake still overrides cruise as per normal - lever failure should not kill you but it will become really annoying.
This is what worked for getting cruise control on an Australian model 2009 Toyota Corolla Ascent delivered without that option. I don't doubt that the same instructions will work with other Australian model Toyota's that include a cruise option. If your model has the clock spring with a spare socket then chances are you don't even need to buy that part and therefore don't even need to remove the steering wheel. Check the clock spring before purchasing so you get all the parts in one go.
!!!Disconnect the battery and wait minimum 90 seconds BEFORE beginning work - this is critical for disabling the airbag, it can kill you. Double, triple check that this airbag disabling procedure applies to YOUR model, get it wrong, it could kill you. Remember, you perform the work, you are responsible for your safety. To my knowledge none of my viewers have been killed by their airbag while following instructions in this video, don't be the first!!!
!!!Test your new cruise install somewhere like NOT in peak hour freeway traffic. Find a quiet road and make sure you are confident with it!!!
Treat these instructions as a non-professional guide, if you are not completely confident, get your local mechanic/auto lecky to install it for you. This involves removing and re-installing an airbag, something that can kill you. So it should only be removed according to the manufacturer's instructions or once again, if you aren't confident, not at all.
The parts cost a total of around $60 from Aliexpress. Toyota wanted about $900... Search for your year model and communicate with the supplier, give them your VIN number and ask them to confirm the part numbers. Pay extra for postage to get the parts much faster.
Finally I have a car that's much more driveable on the highway (I use cruise in town as well to avoid being caught by speed traps).
A shoutout to Guangzhou Tianyu Auto Parts Co., Ltd., look for them and their rep Serena on Aliexpress for reliable and expert service. Remember to offer your VIN and ask questions to get all the right parts. Standard postage from China can take a long time so pay a bit more for other postage options. My parts arrived within a week.

Update Australian Corolla ZRE152R 1.8 2007 hatchback manual are not pre-wired for cruise control but the ECM does support it. You need to run one new wire from the clock spring switch to the ECM located on the engine bay and one wire to a ground point. Also since the car is manual you need to have a clutch switch installed to cancel the CC when you shift gears. That switch goes on top of the clutch pedal. As I read some cars had the clutch switch harness connector pre-wired and attached to the pedal but not in my case so I had to run another two wired to the engine bay fuse box and make the connections there. I went to a wrecker and bought all genuine part from a 2011 levin corolla hatchback manual. I bought the following: Clock Spring Cruise switch stalk Clutch switch and I made sure to cut the connector with some cable. :) $125 and from the dealer I bought: Steering wheel plastic cover with the hole for the cruise stalk. $8 Terminal cable to make the connection on the ECM. $12 from bunnings: Auto cable around $12 Made all connections and worked great. good luck mates

Followed instructions and it worked perfectly on a 2012 Corolla Ascent Auto. Things I had to do differently were push two springs in to remove the airbag instead of torx screws, and remove the steering angle sensor from the old clock spring and install it on the new one otherwise the Vehicle Stability Control and Traction Control lights come on.

Uodate! Update! I've installed cruise control on to my Corolla 2009 and amazingly it WORKED... Everything about it works. Unfortunately, the clock spring had one broken clip, due to lack of proper rapping of the parts in the parcel, making it wobbly a bit when installed. If you intend to purchase the parts, don't forget to ask the seller for proper rapping with bubble rap for instance. Another minor issue, is that the provided cruise stick dust-protecting cover was for another car model. I'm currently asking the seller to resend another clock spring and try to find the right cover. Thanks again Troy for guiding me through all this.

Hi Troy Got my parts last friday afternoon from DHL witch was so quick only paid for my goods on monday night 7pm and they sent it out tuesday morning from hong kong,Installed the new clock spring and stalk on my Miss 2009 corolla hatch manual ZRE152R Friday night ,So Saturday morning i took a drive to tweed heads from Brisbane to pick up some stuff,My Cruise control was fault less,i really put it through its paces everything worked great (cancel on stalk,plus and minus speed control,on off button,break pedal cancel) i've been to the gold coast 3 x this week already and still working great. I'm really happy with it. The parts i ended up getting was after market not OEM.

@@AkBaryar786 corolla ascent 2008 Australia (Melbourne). Piece of advice, get any cruise control lever from wreckers. I got mine from camry and make sure you have the 3 point cable from the clock spring.

Hi Liam, the aliexpress seller didn't give me the part number, they added it to the cruise lever order. Your best bet is to give your VIN to the dealership and ask them to match the cover, it should be pretty inexpensive.

Good stuff, at 1:00 in you can see the new clockspring with the extra socket on the end. If you're lucky yours might have that from factory, you'll need to disconnect power and pull the airbag to see it, it shouldn't take more than around 15 minutes to find out. Don't forget to wait for around 5 minutes after disconnecting power before removing the airbag so there's no chance it will be set off during handling.

today I installed cruise control switch in my GCC Spec corolla xli 1.6 all the things are working fine except there is no indication to show "SET" in the instrument cluster.cruise is working perfectly speed set/cancel (cancel with brake and shift to neutral).All is working except "SET" indication.

thanks for quick reply and I have seen with flash light and there is no indicator for "SET" but for sure there is indicator for cruise on/off and it lit up when I hit the on/off button on cruise switch but the issue is that cruise on/off indicator shows only that cruise function is on or off but how would I know if cruise is in set condition or canceled? please guide me if I have to change the instrument cluster or can I install a separate LED for SET indication ?

Once you find a supplier on Aliexpress you can send them your VIN and they will be able to get you the correct matching part. You could also call a dealership and request part numbers for your VIN and use those numbers to search around for the best price.

What makes this work? All you've done is replace Parts in the steering wheel. How does this affect the speed of the car if it never came with cruise control originally?

The vehicle has cruise in the ECU already along with throttle control, the $900 factory option was for the coil spring with the cruise socket, the lever and dust cover. Many cars have options that simply need to be plugged in. Some vehicles like BMW tend to want certain things coded into the ECU's after they're installed or replaced.

Hi, I have a 2010 Toyota accent, the airbag is just connected with two clips, once these where released, the bag just flips off, and revealed the clock-spring, with the spare connection. So I ordered the cruise control arm for $38. I will let u know how installation goes.

Good chance it will, give your VIN to a clockspring supplier and they should be able to tell you. I think in the comments there are other manual Corolla owners who shared their experience. Remember to use a genuine stalk from the wreckers or ebay, don't use a knockoff.

Hey mate, some part numbers in the description, best bet is to send the VIN to the supplier to check first. Also as per the description, try and get a genuine stalk from the wreckers rather than a copy, the copies don't last. Clock spring seemed to do okay.

Hi Troy, Thanks for your helpful video. After looking at watching it I got courage to buy the parts and get hands on my corolla BUT, I Own a 2007 ZRE152r Hatchback M/T. I bought the clock spring and stalk from a wrecker because I wanted to have genuine parts on my car. I installed them and didn't work. The light "CRUISE" doesn't comes up on the dash. I checked on the spiral harness switch E6 the one where connects to the clock spring and the wires Blue (CSS) and Brown (ECC) are there same as your car. So I thought the car had the cruise control option pre-wired. I did a research and the blue wire (CCS) from the E6 connector goes to the ECM wire harness connector E50 pin40. So I checked that and the blue wire is not there :( Also since my car is manual I need to have a clutch switch and my car doesn't have that either which is not a big deal because I can buy that clutch switch and install it, same as install a new wire to the ECU. But my doubts are: Why the CCS cable is there and does not go to the ECU. Where that cable ends? and How to wire the the clutch switch since my car doesn't have it pre-wired. I read there are some cars that have and empty connector attached to the clutch pedal but not in my car. Does anyone here know or done that? Cheers

The original clock spring has 2 ports only: horn switch and airbag vdc supply. The replacement clock spring has 3 ports which includes the cruise control functions.

@@abumaleeha1 You might need to check some forums or other YT videos for your vehicle, I don't go into all the model variations. If you have an auto and if you're lucky, then it's just the clock spring with no other wires. If you have a manual you might need a clutch switch as an extra. There is mention on some clock spring supply pages of an 'extra wire' that needs to be run for some cars, the supplier wasn't clear on that, worse case is cruise won't work until you can find out off forums or the supplier where the extra wire should fit. I ordered that extra wire just in case, I didn't know if I needed it but asked the supplier for that as an extra.
