Australian Aboriginal music includes the music of Aboriginal Australians and social, cultural and ceremonial observances of these people, down through the millennia of their individual and collective histories to the present day, and has existed for 40,000 years. The traditional forms include many aspects of performance and musical instrumentation which are unique to particular regions or Indigenous Australian groups. A didgeridoo is a type of musical instrument that, according to western musicological classification, falls into the category of aerophone. It is one of the oldest instruments to date. It consists of a long tube, without finger holes, through which the player blows. It is sometimes fitted with a mouthpiece of beeswax. Didgeridoos are traditionally made of eucalyptus, but contemporary materials such as PVC piping are used. In traditional situations it is played only by men, usually as an accompaniment to ceremonial or recreational singing, or, much more rarely, as a solo instrument. Although traditionally the instrument was not widespread around the country - it was only used by Aboriginal groups in the most northerly areas - today it is commonly considered the national instrument of the Australian Aborigines and is world-renowned as a unique and iconic instrument.
Traditional Music Channel is for everyone who has a passion for music.
Music is an expression of human creativity. UNESCO reports that among all the performing arts, music is the most universal and is found in every society, most often as an integral part of other performing art forms and other domains of intangible cultural heritage.
Traditional forms of music are considered carriers of cultural heritage because they represent expressions and traditions transferred through generations of a community.
With recordings from more than hundred nations our collection of traditional music offers a staggering diversity of our humanity.

I remember as a kid, a guy came to my elementary school with a didgeridoo and played for us. It was interesting because he talked about a technique that was used to play the instruments, where you would non-stop breathe out by simultaneously breathing in your nose while breathing out of the mouth... It is still hard to really imagine how to do it, but I guess it's something you must really train a lot for.

Circular breathing. Really hard. Continuously blowing air out your mouth using your cheeks while breathing in your nose. It's tough because using your cheeks to blow air out isn't as effective as blowing out using your lungs. I've tried when I played the trumpet. It takes practice.

Im shocked because I use this kind of music to relax when im anxious and angry ( having ptsd it helps me with my flashbacks) I used to laugh saying it must be that it relaxes the reptilian part of my brain. @zeph6439
@zeph6439 7 жыл бұрын
All the evidence suggests that you are correct. However a higher state of consciousness can be achieved by various means, and not only by the use of plants and herbs. It depends on the individual Shaman and the cultural context. Shamanism is probably one of if not the oldest form of indigenous spirituality - bearing in mind that we are all indigenous/native to somewhere or other.
@felixheymann8181
@felixheymann8181 7 жыл бұрын
Playing the Yidaki alone sets you into a higher state of conciousness after a while. The combination of the basic drone together with the circular breathing (which may sometimes end up being a constant hyperventilation depending on the rhythms played on the instrument) has already a hallucinogenic effect. I do not even want to think about what happens when you combine this with mind extending substances.

It's amazing in every way when you think of the country or the people there, because many of us outside Australia don't get their social and cultural impacts they shared. It's also amazing that when we think of Australia, we think of the Aborigines who settled there for many thousands of years. They showed it all, especially the history, culture, the way they live, and of course, the music we are listening to.

The early Aboriginals designed the didgeridoo to recreate the Sacred OM AUM sound. The subtle humming frequency of creation. It signifies the essence of the ultimate reality, consciousness or all that is. They were spiritually on another level. It was not a musical wind instrument to start but a way of connecting with the universe during spiritual ceremonies. Its a beautiful and memorising sound produced. I could listen to it all day.

I've always thought the Didgeridoo was an instrument constructed by Australian Aborigines to imitate the sound of a flying Saucer that would visit them in the early days of the Aborigines.They were one of the oldest people on earth,so this would be the oldest instrument.
@_Painted
@_Painted 6 жыл бұрын
"They were one of the oldest people on earth" ... That doesn't make very much sense. All peoples (and probably even all species) have the same origin and therefore are equally ancient... We all go back to a single most recent common ancestor if you trace human genetic lineages. If you go far enough back, all life supposedly come from a single lifeform in the primordial oceans (though it is possible that primitive life has formed more than once). By the way, there are ancient bone flutes and whistles all around the world. It's hard to say what the first instrument is because it's hard to say what an instrument is. Are two raw wooden sticks percussed instruments?

+Painted The word, "people", has more denotations and connotations than you think.
@_Painted
@_Painted 6 жыл бұрын
By people, he clearly means a group of human beings forming a distinct population group or ethnicity. We're actually disagreeing on the word "ancient" rather than "people". When Robert says Australian Aboriginal people are one of the most "ancient", he really seems to mean (or is joking) that they were on planet Earth before other humans and witnessed/recorded events from before other "new" humans showed up. That is clearly incorrect, because all humans flow from a single origin and are therefore all equally ancient, and saying otherwise is like stating that a particular drop of water in a waterfall is more ancient than another drop falling at the exact same time but at a different position in the cascade. When some people use the term "ancient people", they really mean more "divergent" from mainstream Eurasian populations. I actually don't like people being referred to as ancient in that usage either because it would still suggest that they are an unchanged people, more similar to some earlier phase of human existence gone by. That is not true because even though isolated divergent populations may lack (or at least lacked prior to colonization) the shared technological and cultural advancements that have diffused through the wider world, they did continue to develop their own independent culture and their own specialized tools to fit their unique ways of life, and there are few entirely isolated "untouched" populations left in the world these days anyways and Australian Aboriginals are definitely not still an entirely isolated population (if they ever even were).

also he the guide explained to us how there are specific songs that are played but there isn’t sheet music or tab like with a “normal” instrument it’s just oral tradition which i think is just so fascinating. i wonder how different the songs would be if we were to go back in time and listen to the songs when they were first created.
