Geez mate. This Fishroom will be looking a bit different in the next month. Just finished grinding and polishing the concrete floor last night. I’m sure it’ll be snazzy for when you get up to little old Coffs Harbour. You are welcome too.

Great setups. I too have collected tropical fish since the 80’s down the far south coast. The old section 37 permit was basic and didn’t involve all the garbage that they require this day and age. I’ve caught most tropical fish you see on the Great Barrier Reef, even got a baby clown trigger fish and a Ballina angelfish, conspicuous angel one year in Tathra. This year there was thousands of moorish idols.
@australianaquarist
@australianaquarist Жыл бұрын
Wow a Ballina Angelfish! The last few years have been pretty bad collecting around Coffs, with quite wet summers and chocolate coloured river water. I don’t see many angels, although have been told that there are about 3 centropyge species, as well as semicirculatus. I’ve only seen the semi’s twice and in difficult spots to collect. I’m yet to find a centropyge. There’s no better way of educating yourself on aquascaping, and fish ecology than getting underwater
@MrCites1
@MrCites1 Жыл бұрын
@@australianaquarist agreed. I’ve caught quite a few centropyge Tibicen, and nox/vroliki. I think the current drops them all off down far south as it swings inwards to the coast. I like the pineapple fish and idols, but catch a lot of heniochus and chaetodons also. I’ve never seen a clown fish or anything like that, but have caught personifer angels.
@australianaquarist
@australianaquarist Жыл бұрын
Ok, yeah the keyhole and coral beauty’s are supposed to be common, and sometimes bicolour. We do get plenty of butterflies from chaetodon, but only the one Heniochus- schooling bannerfish. I’m not going to try to keep the moorish idols at this stage. One species I’d like to keep are eastern hula fish. I think they’d fit a macroalgae display nicely. They don’t really occur close to the coast here, unlike down south around Sydney. We can’t collect around the Solitary Islands
@MrCites1

@@australianaquarist I’ve kept Eastern Hulafish & the Brauns from Esperance. There are some good temperate collectors in Victoria and Wa that you can buy things like Cowfish and sea dragons from.

@@australianaquarist I'm the same, when I had mine years ago it was more natural, I love the idea you had with making your own base rock, I'd much rather seeing natural looking coral bommies, as a diver you have that insight, the estuary tank looks good to, I did really want to see your freshwater outside but I guess that's for another video, I wish I had your kind of room, I haven't posted anything for awhile, I'm still working one my fish room and babying a sore back so it's getting there but slowly, you have given me some inspiration 🙂

@@australianaquarist I think your videos are interesting enough to make longer, I my self thought it was cut to short, it would help with your watch hours to make them longer, before I used voice over I found people would taper off but I think with you explaining everything it's quite interesting, keep them coming, I personally love them, if you find people aren't watching you can always make them shorter 🙂

Yeah the do like to crawl out. When I first set the tank up , I installed an egg crate barrier around the perimeter. You can still see it along the back of the tank. Hey Adam, what temperature do you run your estuary at? I like the idea of having a nice long tank with a mix of fish both tropical and temperate ish. I was thinking maybe 20-22 degrees so I could keep both warmer water species like acanthurus tangs and some cooler water guys like snappers and blue maomao.
