Australian Infantry Obstacle Course will it beat you is the question, army physical training especially infantry training across the world use the obstacle course as a test of toughness, leadership and teamwork for the simple reason it works, you will go from a standing start to exhaustion in moments and you will then spend the next however long feeling like you are in the last minute of a crucial football game knowing if your section does not perform your doing it again.
Infantry training doesn't care about your feelings it is designed to see where the breaking points are and to test weakness of body as well as mind to see who emerges as a leader under pressure and gets the team going or the character that goes internal and becomes selfish and the weak link.
There is no hiding on the infantry Obstacle course at the School of Infantry and you will be watched the whole time and you must succeed at every single hurdle or you and the section will fail.
You will be wet and you will be weighed down with the equipment you wear into battle this is the ultimate cross fit test and the secret ingredients are muscular endurance, mental and physical toughness and mate ship.
The Infantry Obstacle Course will bring out the weakness in men and if you are only Kapooka fit you will fail this course then good luck looking your team in the eye when they get told to get ready to go through again.
You are tested as a section not just as an individual and we don't car about your feelings.
Every infantry soldier has done this before you now it's your turn to prevail or fail what you do to prepare determines your ability to pass.

I don't believe in wearing knee pads unless your in an urban clearance operation, they are kind of a new thing to save the government money by mitigating knee injuries etc fir and movement your knee shouldn't touch the bound and taking a knee in marching order the same pressure is still put onto the knees either way.

Jay your kidding me mate at 50 I was running 10km a day with major medical problems, l 60 now and keen to run again but my arthritis is setting in but I still do pushups,burpees and ride my bike 25km a day l will never give up on my health and l was a drop short at lavarack barracks. Hey young Johno sadly mate photography and videography was frowned on during most of my career and also my hands were normally taken up by a weapon so there is little to show in the way of either. On operations OPSEC Operational Security meant and of the photos i did have of at least the Middle East Tour I had 1 camera broken on an Egyptian sand dune and another stolen by an Egyptian worker in the camp on the second last day of the tour. Sorry mate but the stories are a can do for sure.

been so long since ive done this, waaaaaayyyyy back in 2007, i remember the bayonet assault course seen in this video (on the right at 3:30), it was being constructed when i arrived in singleton ,being in a holding platoon I was first through it (it had figure 11's during our practice runs) which were later replaced with what i assume is still there today, the rubber and tyre figures, which, fun fact, being brand spankin new for the demonstration we had to put on for the chief of defence force (was angus houston at the time) my bayonet got stuck, had to straight up kick the target to get it out, certainly G'd up my SGT at the time lol ahhh memories!

I was there in 2007 and still remembered the visit by the chief of the army (Peter Leahy) as well. We were the last to use that old rusty barbwire infested of an obstacle course. Worst year and the highest injury rates since mid 80s-90s. So many good men got wrecked before they tuned down the level of intensity and now became a pussy as of a joke training school.

I will answer such an easy Questions,I was a Reserve Soldier over 35 years ago, but only lasted 3 years, as I had to leave due to work.That is the answer.We were know as the WOW,Weekend Warriors,we did a 2 week camp where the Regs did a Full course to became the Real Soldiers of the Australian Military and All of them deserve a Very Very Very big Salute from all of us.I made it through the March Out.I hate a Mate earlier that went through KAPOOKA,and it nearly destroyed him.He told me what he went through.Every single detail, and it was heartbreaking, its not for the heart fainted,I lost touch with him, so what got me to go as a Reserveist.I was talk into it, the money was great and the guy was a Soldier,and he hounded me til I decided to joint was young and also had young kids at the time and looking for extra money.like I said, i am 62 now.It change my life,I was in my 20's at the timely kids were only little and I went on the camp,At PakaPunyal.We had a Segargent mayor like Gomper Pile did, relentless but had our respect.I learnt heaps, we learnt how to March and that took time, we learnt Salute and how to look after a rife and how to use one and Machine gun and how to deal with gas as well,I could spend nearly a book of my short exprience , in the Armed forces ,I just wanted to drive a trucks will add more next

Singo is long, but it's not that hard. I remember doing the obs course at Holsworthy when climbing a rope and crossing, wasn't some poofy Navy 3 feet off the ground thing. But I'm old and since my day, knowing how to blow bubbles up an officers arse has become more important. Pity.

Hey Charles mate Singo is a lot harder due to the weight of equipment and combat ensemble the lads wear these days mate and there also seems to be way to much to learn but as you say if your prepared it's not as hard, sadly many are not prepared and the back squads are brutal for those that can't cut it. I think you have been out of the game to long to know what the lads go through now in regards to the modern battlefield and being a Infantry Soldier is as good as it's ever been it's just different. Question. Will the obstacle course beat you? Answer is easy. If you go out there and don't work together then basically you are fucked. It's a team sport ladies and gentlemen. Even still it's still very hard and they make no apologies about it. What happens if your section is taking fire and the only thing between you and a lot of 9liner calls is a 10ft compound wall. Well if you don't work as a team then I'll put a poppy on your name at the Australian War Memorial. I know that's harsh but reality is a bitch. Last time I did an obstacle course was 35 years ago. Back then, we had mud, barbed-wire, smoke, 60's (firing blanks) and whizz-bangs... I agree, the obstacles course looks as clean as a hospital. It's long, but easy and slow. I went through there in 85, and it was barbed wire,mud and dust. Cargo nets, and much higher traverse ropes.

So now to add, the most Prize memory I have, from quiting the being the Offiecer Billet and doing all the small jobs every.i was cleaning pots and pans outside the kitchens of the Mess kitchen and set it all up, the lowest of the lowest, I want to feel the pain, but I enjoyed it, I was washing all the pans and loving it,I didn't;t know it then but the General of yes the General of the Reserve was visiting, I never knew, and a guy was passing my way who was the General's driver and I had no idea who he was but he spoke to me and just ask a few questions, then the General Approached,how did I know, he had all the officers around him and the red sash around his hat and I said stand fast,So what does Stand Fast mean,Stand to Attention,Give respect to an Officer,i could not salute because I wasn't wearing a hat or cap,so I put my hands to my side, same as saluting, he said at ease, and spoke to me like a normal person.I highest Ranking Offiers spoke to me and I knew who he was and it was Princless, when he moved on he driver said, that has never happened before, so why couldn't.you wore me.i said I didn't get a chance.Sorry.

So the next step as I cut out a heap as its such a long story, when I was in the 7th Transport Squadron as we were known, and based at Coburg which is well and truly gone,We Paraded every Tuesday Night,and did the parade every time,them we had to do a weekend away once every month, some where In the bush with some trucks and in Victoria,and set up our own Hootich,it was a one person tent and you had to put up yourself, and make sure you dug around it in case it rained.So the water went around you and not through the small tent.Also you had to sleep with your rife next to you.So what was next. We had a 2 weeks training course that was yearly, I was posted as the Officers Mess and in charge.No it seemed a cherished position, but it wasn't,So what was I in charge of.So I was in charge of, cleaning all knife forks and spoons of all the Ranking Offiecers Places,making sure they were perfect.i was told and shown how to place them and I was in charge of Serving them, everyone of them.I did that for a week.i was drinking with others one evening, and my sergeant Major accent me of over drinking and told to go to bed.I did what I was told, the next morning's told my Sergeant who was my higher officer that I quite being an billet to an Offiers mess.So I went and became the lowest of all of it.Did I mind,Hell No.I washed pans and I even had to have the key so I could open the kitchen up and start toasting bread and I had 400 slices to toast.

Mate clean skin you probably would have a good crack at this but with the gear on id say no chance i am not a fan at all of doing this course in the body armour with weapons etc it breaks equipment, breaks soldiers and achieves less than it would if they were clean skin and tested on speed, teamwork, toughness and a set time to achieve without the ability to be able to use equipment failure etc on a poor or failed result.

I went through in 91 and yep it was tough as hell going through at speed 3 times then instructed multiple times in the last 15 years and it is harder in some ways like wearing the body armour etc but it is always tough even though it’s different..

Like in the UK the youth progam army cadets they use rifles out bush the L85 but we Australian army cadets don't do it and were like still apart of the commonwealth I think it be good to teach cadets over here once theyve done there first 3 years from 13 till 16 should then use rifles out bush and get a proper experience on what the army or army reserves will be like we only get to shoot the F-88 austeyr series 2 and F-89 minimi at singleton range or holsworthy or learn red in the shed and backnav were we go back to previouse checkpoint when navigating checkpoints or ratel and drill which is real fun but hard to remember but I like that we can do it at cadets,and rifles clearance drills were you check safe mag out (at clearence barrel) etc it teaches respect of rifle which is a quality of 4 cadet qualitys courage initiative respect and teamwork but we'd feel respected if used rifles out bush and Probaly get respect from general public at school and like its something to do while at school and it teaches good qualities like it should be compulsary instead of partying and stuff but I'm 18 now last year of cadets and hopefully when I'm 30 I join reserves to serve our majesty queen Elizabeth Il like you did Caz your the true heroes of this world cadets have tremendous respect for people in ADF we are inspired and look up too you guys
