Hot tip for new players, get your run time down to a sub 10. Seeing the new march ins from the 3 week course is interesting. They are quite deficient in quals but most concern is fitness. Kapooka is not going to make you fit and the basic pt program by army is very deficient. My unit we have stupid level of fitness. About 20% are sfet level fit, with wide variation from there. Your goal should be the following when you hit kapooka. Min 11 minute run for 2.4, 60 pushups and 100 situps. You hit these before you go you will find kapooka a joke.

Recruit Course was 2 weeks for years back in the 1980's and 1990's for the Army Reserve. The courses were also run at state or military district level by the MD training groups, rather than nationally at Kapooka. Vic recruits went to Puckapunyal, NSW to Singleton I believe, Tas to Brighton Military Camp etc. Made a lot of sense as the majority of training was at unit level and the 2 week recruit course just covered the basics. Unlike the ARA, you could actually of served up to a year as a Recruit in an Ares unit before you even did recruit course. This was the extreme and I think six months was the official limit. Technically you weren't supposed to fire live rounds down range until you did recruit course, although this rule was often not followed by the letter.

reserves has never been 13 weeks. Back in the day there wasn't even a reserve course but then implemented one that went for 7 weeks, then dropped to 5, now it's 3 but don't come out qualified. They still have a few things to catch up on at their unit. Working with SES during natural disaster is a great opportunity during peace keeping times
@Looking-great

@@outperformfitness Yes 8 not 13. Except we were with the regs too when I went in 2000. Both the regs and chocos did kapooka together back in the day. This watered down 3 weeks just isn't enough. I know there is IET after it but 3 weeks? Cmon.... And doing the SES work for them because they are lazy isn't fun at all....
@outperformfitness
@outperformfitness 2 ай бұрын
@@Looking-greatthey to finish their initial courses back at base before IET's. They still aren't qualified as a soldier marching out of basics so they end up doing all the same stuff, it's just broken up to allow people to join that are unable to go for 5+ weeks away from their regular jobs. I can definitely see where you are coming from but it's recruiting is way down at the moment so this is an opportunity for those that couldn't do it with the longer course.

@@outperformfitness I can't speak about the CMF days. But from the early 1980's there was always a "recruit course" run at state level for the Army Reserve. It was 2 weeks duration from the 80's until the early 2000's I believe. They centralised recruit training at Kapooka in about 1995 from memory for the Ares but it remained at 2 weeks. They then bumped it up to what you described at about seven weeks to bring the standards up to a sort of ARA equivalent. Clearly retention and recruiting into the Ares has now reached such a problem they are going back to the shorter course to get the numbers up.
