He sings those fast-paced lyrics, while playing the bass like a demon, stops in there to check his watch and his brain must be doing so much at one time in order to pull off the whole performance so flawlessly. And he dances. All in front of thousands of people.

In 1990 I was playing in a cover band in Hobart, Tasmania ... Big Mo was doing its' decommissioning tour (US aircraft carrier) ... lots of sailors and sl*ts. An American sailor gives us a mix tape of bands his father found as an A & R rep. It included desk tape recordings of Primus, Faith No More, and RHCP from the mid-80's at an unknown nightclub with excellent sound quality. We thought he was full-of-it, until they hit the charts. That's my slightly relevant story. $0.02

One of the funny liner notes from the studio version of this song in particular, apart from Les' use of a 6 string fretless bass is the fact that Tommy The Cat is voiced by none other than Tom Waits.
