Welcome back everybody! This week I visited Nicole at Jamberoo Mountain Farm and talked about her pasture-raised chickens. These chickens are living THE LIFE. Luscious pastures to roam on, plenty of bugs & grubs to eat, stress-free environment, and lovely people taking care of them. I hope you enjoy the interview, and go get some Jamberoo Mountain Farm eggs!

M granma knew Mr bartter and his older brother. my brother and I met them both. They owned half the wheat belt and wanted to do something with the wheat to value add hence bartters eggs which no longer exists bought by pace eggs. The chickens ate Wheat making cheap eggs. All this high quality means Extra cost so china can come in and buy everything............................................................................... like they bought the lobster industry WA.

I love this so much awesome. I have a few questions if you have time. How often are the chickens moved in pasture? What grains and seeds etc do they eat? Do you do composting or just let the animals compost as they move around by themselves. You mentioned chili garlic etc how much do you use in water feed etc. I appreciate any help you have.

Nicole at Jamberoo Mountain farm moves her chickens every week. She uses a stock feed company Vella, you can search them up. And she lets the animals move around on pasture. I don't know how much garlic and chilli she uses, I will ask and get back to you soon.

I see so many rotational grazing pastures like this, who always use moveable fencing to partition their fields, and think. Why don't they use hedges? If they plant a hedge instead of a fence, they will remove the weekly time consuming chore of checking the fences and moving it. Where a fence will break down a hedge would grow even stronger. And a hedge will provide so many benefits. A hedge is a windbreak, shade, protection from aerial predators, protection from weather, provides food for forage for both cattle and chickens, as well as self medication if appropriate species are planted, is a habitat for wildlife, pollinators, and pest eaters, a firebreak, protects from both wind and water based erosion, traps air pollutants, can be used as a source of food and fuel, and -with something that Nicole seems quite troubled with- helps prevent flooding by absorbing all the excess water. The only maintenance needed is once the hedge is yearly pruning to encourage bushiness for the first few years, and once a dozen years or so old, laying small sections on a rotational basis every year. Anyway, good work Chili! Just found your channel and have started going through all of your videos oldest first. I hope you can achieve your dream!

You asked all the right questions! That was interesting. Are they building up the soil to farm vegetable or to feed more cattle? I suppose either would be a good reason.

They have a veggie patch, but they are mainly just building up the soil for healthier pastures for the cattle and chickens.
