After a close semi-final contest, decided on the last arrow and by a simple two-point difference, Simon Fairweather had made it to the final. The 30 year-old Australian archer, who had been declared an Australian sports promise 9 years earlier, now had the chance to win the Olympic gold medal in his home country.
And he didn't disappoint the fans. Keeping his cool and using the support from fellow Australians to his advantage, Fairweather delivered a strong performance and became the first Australian to win an Olympic gold medal in archery.

That moment with Simon has inspired me in my archery to this day. What a wonderful view in the reflection of his sunnies on the last shot. Your a champ Simon.

It helps take the vibration out of the bow. The only thing that calculates is the sight at the front of the bow. Each competition you enter you go through equipment inspection.

I assume Lee Kisik left Australia for America for the greater perceived prestige, and maybe more money, who knows. Well, the US got a men's team silver in London, which isn't bad, but I think some people were expecting more for the amount of resources and effort put into it, either a team gold or an individual medal.

Do you know what the 'gadgets' are for? If not I suggest you research, once my coach put me onto them, I couldn't shoot without them, I felt a huge difference

As far as I know they help the archer, either by aiding in the balance, probably helps with calculations of wind speed or direction and therein lies my point. Imagine having a pool cue with all kinds of little devices that calculate the angles and directions for you, imho, it takes away from the sport. Like I said, there is still a level of skill involved.

Nup gold medal showdown should have been between Legolas and Katniss. Legolas would have beaten Hawk-Eye to qualify and Katniss would have beaten Merida from brave.

Yes, it's an awesome feeling...to 'robin hood' is even better, though losing an arrow is a downside to that happening lol

With dead centre the initial commentor probably ment the centre of the target. In most competions its just as anyother spot on the target but in the olympics theres a camera mounted. you ruin a camera if you hit dead centre, which has been done a number of times. A robin hood is actually when you hit another one of your arrows, breaking the back of it and ruining your arrow, also nothing special

I prefer Japanese archery! These western bows have way to many pieces and gadgets sticking out of them. Great skill shown here none the less, however, I just think there is too much technology involved in what should be a simpler sport.

Japanese archers use the same type of bows and equipment this isn’t anime where there are still samurai’s in Japan

@@Jduong7 Kyudo is a more traditional form of archery still very much practiced in Japan and other countries. Other countries also still have more traditional forms of archery where they do not rely on these more contemporary bows with all the bells and whistles. Nobody spoke of animé and samurais smarta$$!
