it says "australian food" and has "new zealand food" in their shops name 😅😅 yes the pies are similar to both of ours, but are more like a fancier~more gourmet take on our meat pies

Looks amazing however, these are not Aussie meat pies, inspired sure but they aren't anything you find in Australia (the filling is mostly legit)

You'd get this style at Bakehouse on Wentworth in the Blue mountains. More rustic.

Definitely find these type of pies around here in Sydney. Just gotta know where. The one in the blue mountains that was said is heaps good!

Aus pie filling is gravy based not tomato based. They basically used a bolognese sauce in these! And this type of pie isn’t as common as people may think. I’ve been to most states and have only eaten this style of pie maybe three times in my life. The flaky puff pastry style isn’t the same as regular pie crust, it just reminds me of a different type of savoury pastry.

I would say to be more like an Australian pie it needs to be a more seperate meat/gravy. You could still use the mirepoix for a gravy, but the majority of the filing should be cuts of steak for an Aussie meat pie. I'd take this over a Mrs Mac's though

These pies look a million times better than anything you can get in an Australian bakery. Australian pies are shit and Australians are in denial about it. They’re always banging on about how much they love meat pies and how f’ken great pies are despite every one of us being privately disappointed every time we eat one. You know I’m right. Fact: True-blue Aussie pies from a dinky-di country bakery run by Barbara from Wagga and her pleasant but nervous husband Nathan are dry, hollow, crunchy failures made of kiln-fired plaster and painted pale piss-yellow. They’re filled with thinned-out Murray mud and tiny rubberised granules of cow meat sourced from “the new bulk place at the border” which is “bloody cheap”. Some of them have curry powder and feathers in them (“Tandoori Chicken”) Others have a 1/10 chance of containing a mushroom slice (“Steak and Mushroom”) or pepper (“Aussie Roadhouse Peppersteak”) or boiled egg fragments and pizza ham (“The Aussie” wtf? who invented that? nobody likes it, nobody ever buys it, stop it). All of them are served at 9000 degrees so when you try to eat it your skull catches fire to distract you from how shit the thing is. The alternative to burning alive is to let it cool down but everyone knows the name of the game and what they’re in for with a cold pie. It will get a disgusted frown from everyone in the car after dad pulls it out of the glovebox half an hour later and offers it around. “Nah chuck it, let’s get Maccas at Dubbo.” Because Maccas tastes good and if bakeries want people to buy more pies and less Maccas they need to stop pretending that the current standard (as declared by every bakery in the country with their council-issued window sign - “2008 Winner: Best Meat Pie and Vanilla Slice”) is anything other than a shameful delusion. Australia can’t make a decent Australian pie anymore and everyone knows it.

did a meat pie murder your family? I've had some absolutely fantastic pies in SA with thick chunks of tender meat and perfect pastry. none of that four and twenty shite that you're describing. the mince in that video looks so overcooked in an effort to brown it all that the texture is probably awful. I've made that mistake once before and it was damn near inedible, somehow felt like it had been pre-chewed into mush but also rubbery as hell.

Yeah, nah. It’s certainly loosely ‘inspired’ by an Aussie meat pie but it actually looks like a mix of a pie and a puff pastry dumpling with that twisted border! We don’t generally use puff pastry like that here unless a bakery is trying to be unique! Bakeries and store bought pies use shortcrust pastry. If we make pies at home we use electric pie makers and use a combination of shortcrust pastry for the base and puff for the top just for a texture difference and it cooks and looks neater. Only some of the ingredients here are used for the fillings, most beef meat pies are gravy based not tomato based. If it’s chicken it’s a cream sauce. That looks like a Bolognese sauce instead! Who had the idea of making this ‘koala bakery’ in Korea? Is any Australian actually associated with this place or was it some locals random idea?

o.Australians don't use carrot or celery in their pies, as it makes them taste sweet. Same as tomato. And you don't use puff pastry as the base, as it is too brittle and fatty. But as a meat pie they look about as good as you would get in the UK, a culture renowned for their food culture. Yea... No.
