AU Survivor has slayed the US version since post-covid. I'm a European fan of Survivor and have been watching it since I was a teen, when it first started. For me I'd say Australian Survivor is better now, partly because the format is better than what US Survivor is doing now and partly because it's lacking the US type of flashiness, I can't really explain it but it's this American entertainment thing. I've liked plenty of players in the new US Survivor era, I actually like that the cast now is more diverse in every way, that there's fewer of those typical big macho model looking guys, typical fit, cool, hollywood actress looking girls, I like that there's all kinds of quirky personalities, people of all types, with stand out personalities(be it in a good or annoying way). But it's become flashier, glossier, I don't like the going on a journey thing, I don't like all the beware advantages and I think the shortened format takes a lot away, it's different when both the audience and the contestants know it's a 40+ day journey to the end vs a 27 day one. By contrast, Australian Survivor feels more gritty, more difficult on the survival aspect, there's more players and to get to the end stages you have to last a long time and more eliminations. Another thing is I feel like there's more elaborate strategising and some players who seem to really have this fascinating ability to read situations and people, to think strategically like it was a chess game almost and thrive in chaos. Challenges are often harder too, more rewards and it feels like the reward is more special when the game goes on for so much longer, they usually nail the extra twists like having a couple of non eliminations at the right time or the tribal where they have a challenge to see who gets the right to vote. I'm starting to feel the same about The Amazing Race AU but they're more equal to me

Only thing I would argue is worse in Australian survivor is the edit, but I prefer the twists, returnees, advantages, casts and length of the Australian seasons, although I might be biased because I’m Australian and have only watched the last 5 US seasons. The Australian edit is just frustrating because it’s the thing that holds the seasons back from being amazing, and it doesn’t seem to be getting better

You've inspired me, I need to see Survivor International Invasion! US vs Australia, best of the best from each series. I'll definitely be doing a video putting a cast together for that dream season. I wish Survivor South Africa stuck around so we could have 3 tribes as they had some really fun players as well. Great video mate! I feel that due to the length of Australian Survivor, it can be really hit or miss. It really depends on the cast, and who in the cast makes it far, because in Australian Survivor you'll be spending a huge amount of time with them, due to so many episodes. It means that Australian Survivor can be brutal to get through if there aren't really interesting people who stick around, which sometimes there isn't. Rebels vs Titans got lucky that the more interesting players took over the game early on both tribes and the less interesting players (the couples alliance on the original rebels except for Alex of course, and Frankie, Jess and Nathan on the Titans) went home early. So this season down here is an absolute marathon to watch, like any season of Aussie Survivor, but the cast is making it so much fun! It really is depending on the cast and who from the cast makes it far into the game. American survivor, due to it's shorter run time is more consistent, but most of my favourite Survivor players of the last decade are Australian players, because we get to spend more time getting to know them and falling in love with them.

I really enjoyed AUS the first several years - now, I think production rigs it for their favorites. It seems very odd to me, how people went almost all season without targeting Feras, David(7) and George(8 and 10). Some of the advantages and "Mock vote twist" that George received seemed uncanny. Some examples: -in s8 ep.1: George gets an advantage to save himself and 5 ADDITIONAL contestants in TC, is ridiculously over-powered. He would likely be the first boot otherwise. -in S8, Cara and George each save themselves with an HII, Cara also gets the "The tribe voted you out, but you'll just joined the opposite tribe ahead of the merge" twists, which really helped gain them the numbers over the Brains alliance. -George skips the S10 E1 TC due to medical -in the survivor auction on 10.09, George easily wins the bid for a lunch retreat, where a hidden immunity idol is plainly laying on the table.
@Apples8006 ай бұрын
Finally someone else has realised this! George was obviously helped out a bunch by the producers. He would have been booted first in S8 if they didn’t give him a very overpowered advantage. Paul deserved a better chance.

South African here. I used to watch Survivor a lot as a kid and the ones that obviously stood out to me was Survivor Heroes vs Villians or any season that had Sandra, Boston Rob, Pavarti and Russell. But as I grew older, I fell out of it. I only recently got back to watching it last year with Survivor 44 and 45, and I loved them. But I liked 45 a lot more than 44 because the Tika Three stooges were the stars of the show and made it a lot more entertaining than the rest of the cast members, challenges or any twists and advantages that were there. 45 was nicely balanced. I then got bit by the Survivor bug and wanted to watch some more, and realized that Survivor Aus was currently playing. I underestimated it at first and thought "This Survivor has nothing on US Survivor!" Boy, was I so wrong, and I've never been happier to be wrong 😂! The difference in cinematography, game play, challenges, alliances, tribal councils, blindsideds etc, to the American one are worlds apart! I never thought that Aus Survivor got me so hooked that I'd immediately watch exit interviews , jury villa confessionals and super fan Zoom videos on KZbin after watching an episode. It even got me thinking should I apply to be in Aus Survivor since Survivor SA isn't there anymore. I'm now an absolute fan of Survivor Australia and I'm going to binge watch the previous ones before Titans vs Rebels. Ps: I've never watched Survivor South Africa and I'm very sad that it's not there anymore , and even if I could apply for it, I couldn't because I was still in high school while it was running 😭. Im 24 now , but I'm curious to those who have seen most, if not all, is it any good and does it measure up to the American and Australian version?

wow great video! I do have some things I want to add on as an aussie, but I think I'll just stick to one interesting cultural difference about Australia people may not know: 6:58 I just found it hilarious how your comparison to blue collar jobs was Lachie the carpenter. In Australia, tradies (electricians, carpenters, plumbers etc) are actually part of Australia's upper class. I know what you were trying to do was show how US survivor has more upper-class jobs, while Aus has more representation down to lower class (since in the US tradies are considered lower class), but what you actually did was a middle-upper class job (clinical psychologist) compared to an aussie middle-upper class job (tradie). Australia also has much to do in terms of occupational representation as well- or does it? It's interesting how Aus seems to value more of its occupations, such as fast food, healthcare and tradie workers, and so representation between different fields and classes doesn't seem as important since there's a cultural respect and egalitarianism between them all (except our politicans, our politicans are actualy devils spawn). Compared to the US, where classism and difference between jobs has a lot more negative connotations and stereotypes
@byronmayes59046 ай бұрын
I actually thought it was a good comparison. I remember reading somewhere Simon quit his job to become a Carpenter on minimum wage just so he could be in charge of his own life. Although specific detail surrounding Simon's circumstance should have been brought up in the video (although I can understand if Bandit didn't want to bring that up in public in a video)

after getting more and more dissapointed with new era us survivor, I started watching titans v rebels after the first 2 46 season episodes. I binged it through in a matter of days, I loved it so much, it was so much more diverse and chaotic, way less kumbaja, and two big tribes have so much more chances for interior drama. Titans v rebels had constant voote changes and like 4 long lasting rivalies. US could never nowadays. Only 2 problem I really have with australia, is the editing really shafting many players a lot and the challenges, especially post merge tend to be really favoring a certain type of competitor and are pretty much all physical, so many players just never stand a chance to win immunity, because they are so damn brutal. They are all very unique and cool t look at, but often need a similar skill set.

I’m someone who really enjoys both versions alot and invests a lot of time and energy to both Australian and American Survivor. Contrary to popular opinion, I love both of them, and I really dislike that most people who like AUS just use it as an excuse to bash the US version even more. I think the main thing I notice about US vs AUS is the intent/level of passion of the producers. The US version producers see the show as their passion. You can feel with every article, every Jeff podcast, and interview that Jeff and his team love Survivor with all their being, and they put pure passion and effort into every second of the show. The Australian producers are more generic TV producers who are mostly concerned with getting ratings and having shocking moments. It’s a job rather than a passion to them. Feels more corporate. The Australian version is more entertaining in a vacuum, but it doesn’t have a deeper meaning like the US show does. AUS primarily presents as a strategic game of idols, blindsides and big brute challenges, which is more entertaining, but it’s not art. We don’t get to know much of the players outside of the game. I would not call it trashy, but it’s more popcorn entertainment. Looking at the promos, it’s definitely a lot more sensationalist. The US version on the other hand presents itself as a journey of self discovery set inside of a complex strategy game. It’s a lighter vibe, everyone is nice for the most part and it focuses a lot on inner strength and personal growth. It’s less entertaining in a bubble but it’s more emotionally powerful on the whole and it feels like the proceed really want to achieve a deeper meaning about humanity. Just listen to the music of both versions to get an idea of what I mean This isn’t for or against either version, both are awesome shows, just an observation.

Having watched all US Survivor and all AU Survivor series, I would say the quality of AU contestants were sub-standard and most of them were not competitive and more interested in doing a Big Brother show rather than Survivor. In the latest season, the quality had improved with people like Feras, Mark and Kirby. AU producers need to get away from making Survivor into a Big Brother show and the before merge challenges into another AFL match. US producers are good at making creative uses of Immunity Idols which usually beings a lot more challenges into the game, but in the latest season, AU had introduced a hilarious and most challenging idol play.

This last 2 or 3 years I'm being more excited to watch Australian survivor. 45 was the best new era season by far. But. I still prefer Australian survivor. Even with the predictable boot order in the end game. because of the edit.

Format: AU (I think 2x9 > 2x24 but US refuses to do it so) Editing/Storytelling: US Casting: AU Gameplay: AU Release Format: AU (3 episodes a week is amazing) Rewatchability: US (Au is better when it's coming out but US is far better on a rewatch) Challenges: US but it's close and I don't fault you if you think AU is better, just think US has better equity and variety than AU

AU Survivor is much better than US version in the last 4-5 season. More interesting contestants with interesting characters vs lame characters in the US version, almost like they (the producers) are playing it too safe in order not to offend the US vievers with possible confrontations. The new twists that the US Survivor tries to introduce in every new seson, are not exciting and are only a detrement to the original game. They should get back to basics...two tribes, more idols in play and most important, a better choice of contestants with large personalities. After all it is the contestants that make or brake a memorable season, something the US Survivor has not managed to do in the past seasons.

The contestants on the US version have been terrible the past few seasons. I tried watching this season but that guy who is crying all the time made it unwatchable. I may give it another shot once he is gone.

Competition wise Australian is far more physical than US most of the AU players are huge this year most got voted out early but the Challenges were awesome US I think they are having auditions at Comic Con and Starbucks but they are more strategical, AU they all talk strategies 3 feet apart this season Raymond advantage of all Vote me out was entertaining but wow look even scripted. Advantage AU too is three times a Week.

Australian survivor is the winner - it’s more vicious, rough and characters are easier to remember and are not sanitized like the Americans. JLP has out jeffed Jeff. I am up to date with Australian survivor ( Ferris) but am only on Season 44 US - so I have to come back to this video again. Jeff I think should replace himself cause he seems bored, spent and tired - I really hate saying this , also he allowed the fat lady to enter his space when he dropped the word ‘guys’ and worse of all- every business person knows the customer is always right and by saying he doesn’t care what people say not only proved he rubbed sanitizer all over himself it proved the start of his downfall, he would want to move over before the fat lady puts the mic down.

I haven't enjoyed a post-covid season of Survivor yet. I could count on one hand the number of AU contestants I've actually enjoyed watching and who have had any kind of gameplay and the editing of AU survivor is TERRIBLE. US I haven't gotten into either but I think that's more due to the game changes than the casting. If US played like AU and AU cast like US, maybe I'd be having a good time. 🤷♂️

Here is the thing. Australian casting imo is better. It does need to get better in terms of racial diversity but it’s cast of characters is just so good

When Oz first came out, I preferred it for a few years. I loved the longer/extra episodes as I always felt 1 hour US Survivor a week (which is 42 mins run time), was rushed, BUT I haven't enjoyed Oz the last 3 or 4 seasons and often stop watching part way through. 3 episodes a week is overkill and I don't like the editing/themes that are essentially the same thing (Titans Vs Rebels is just Champions Vs Contenders). HvV was also so frustrating with "King George" dominating every episode, and teasing us that he might go in almost every preview for the next episode when we know full well he won't until very late. Also had a lot of dud players who were sheep. Oz also casts very similar people every season (footie players, ex pro athletes, really big guys etc). The casts aren't diverse enough for me. I haven't enjoyed an Oz season since All-Stars. On the flip side, I love that US Survivor now has 90 min episodes (slightly over 1 hour run time) once a week (it's the perfect amount), but I'm not a fan of all the twists they throw in, especially players losing their votes, but all in all, I'd rather just watch 1 US episode per week than 3 Oz. That's one of the big drawbacks for me, I don't want to watch Survivor 3 nights a week (4 if you watch both versions since they overlap), it's too much to keep up with. I also wish Oz would air their annual season around June-August time, that way they'd not clash with US. They must know their viewers watch it as well.

Australian Survivor viewers do not watch US Survivor because American Survivor is so bad it is painful.
@fukayusugma20746 ай бұрын
This video was overly critical of the US version and VERY (and I do mean VERY) forgiving of some crucial flaws of Australian Survivor. I have at least finished every US season of Survivor. I have given up on some seasons of Australian Survivor because of the poor editing and ludicrous twists. For example, the EOE twist in US Survivor was hammered endlessly but we're expected to just overlook that it's super common for players in the AU version to just get voted out and not leave the game or receive any penalty at all they move tribes. That's just one example, but you see the point I'm trying to illustrate. The US version is just held to a higher standard than the international version. But, with any objectivity, the US version is better. Higher caliber gameplay, better editing, less nonsensical twits in the game, extra.

Feel like Aussie survivor has some very obvious pros and cons. The challenges are great. The twists and non elimination episodes are very high and miss. But the biggest con is that the editing is even more lopsided. In a typical episode 2 people might get 10 confessionals each and 2 people might get 0. It’s like very obvious who are the players that matter, and some players are reduced to NPCs or just a pawn
