It seems some people are confused about the comparison between Mike and Ben’s situations so I’ll try to clarify further. Ben was not allowed to play the idol when he did. When Jeff let him do that - and confirmed it was real - that was a violation of the rule. Jeff both let Ben play an idol early and confirmed to everyone that it was a real idol. Neither of those actions are allowed. On the other hand, Mike didn’t break a rule by asking Jeff to confirm the idol, nor did Jeff break a rule by denying confirmation of Mike’s idol. While Mike wasn’t trying to play the fake idol, it’s important to understand that if Mike cannot have his idol confirmed until after the votes are cast, neither should Ben be able to have his idol confirmed before the votes are cast - regardless of whether Ben is trying to play the idol or not. Just as he denied Mike, Jeff should’ve told Ben: “As per the rules, I can’t let you play that yet - nor confirm if it’s what you think it is - You gotta wait until the votes are cast to play/confirm it.” Also, in the following season, Ghost Island, at the final 6, Domenick played a fake idol before the votes were cast-but Jeff didn’t confirm if the idol was real or not. This situation creates another inconsistency with Ben's play, as Jeff did confirm Ben’s idol was real and any votes cast against him would not count. Why did Jeff not confirm Dom’s idol was fake, despite playing it? Confirming a real one but not a fake one is one in the same. Some people are understandably confused because Mike didn’t play the fake idol, but Ben did play the real one and it was confirmed to be real. They appear to be two different circumstances, but they're actually following the same set of rules. Idols can't be played early. Idols can't be confirmed early. Until they can. And that’s the point of the video - Jeff allows inconsistencies and sometimes the producers break their own rules.

I rewatched the footage and Jeff told the cast during the Ben vote that they are allowed to vote for Ben even though he had just played his immunity, their votes just would not count. But I do understand that your whole argument is about when an idol can and cannot be played. I am struggling to find this rule on the official document you linked to the video. So please help me, on what page of the rule book may we find this rule that prevents players from playing their idols before votes are cast?
@Peridiam2 жыл бұрын
@@thabangsiyabongakamatona7832 You're right, Jeff does say they can still vote for Ben, though their votes won't count. The official document linked doesn't talk about the idol - you can find the rules for the idol on the parchment that comes with them. For example, there's a visible shot of the rules in Episode 5 of HHH, that state: "If you intend to use the idol for yourself or someone else, you must do so after all of the votes have been cast, but before the votes are read." Here's a screenshot: i.imgur.com/ifd5gZk.jpg?1

@@Peridiam it feels like you are moving the goal post a little bit. I watched this video under the impression that all your "rule breaks" were issues where a rule in the official rule book was broken. I think we have established that by having Ben play that idol, Jeff did not break an official rule from the rule book. Survivor is notorious for changing rules on advantages. It would not be too far fetched to believe that this rule seen on that parchment for that single idol in HHH may not have been in the parchment that Ben had for his idol. Thank you for your engagement as I asked more questions on this issue. Most KZbinrs would have just avoided people who disagree with them. You are a germ. That said, I am still unconvinced that the Ben idol play is a rule break since: 1) It did not break any rule from the official rule book. 2) The comparison you made in the video with Mike is not exactly a similar situation since Ben's idol was played and Mike's wasn't. 3) We did not see the parchment directly linked to that specific idol Ben had as it is possible that rules for advantages differ (as is usual with survivor). I appreciate your work. Thank you.

Risking your own vote is fine because it is within your control to lose your powers. The Shot in the Dark? I actually really like the idea as an option for those with none left. Jeff did tell them to brake up the conversation but production not only allowed Lex to protect Amber but aired a ton of footage of Rob and Lex talking about the deal and turned it into one of the biggest storylines of the season going all the way into final tribal and beyond. Just like the JT idol storyline it was just too good to pass up, but a rule break none the less.

It reminds me of a season of The Biggest Loser, where the final 4(?) contestants were told that one of the eliminated contestants would be returning to join them in the finals. They didn't take the news well and effectively went on strike, not willing to engage with the producers, camera crew, or the trainers. I recall a good portion of that episode had rough and raw camera footage where they tried to get them to cooperate with the twist. He could’ve held up the rules if Jeff said “Ben is already giving me what he SAYS is an idol.” And just not confirm it until he reads the votes. But Jeff’s continuing hard on for Ben blinded him to the rules for a sec and in a moment of good TV confirmed it was the idol. Not the biggest mistake ever and maybe there has been a change in how that can work, but still a rule break nonetheless.

I don't think it necessarily matters one way or the other if someone decides to play the idol before votes are cast, though -- if they want to burn the idol and give the opposition enough time to come up with Plan B, then let them.

I personally like the live tribal. When people start to get up and go talk off to the side and you see people start to panic. Another example being the merge "immunity" challenge in Survivor 41, and then the hourglass twist happening. Also, to go with your first example, the timeline starts with Tony in Cagayan asking if Jeff can validate an idol (at the time an idol can be played), then Jeff saying it IS an idol, followed by Tony using it on LJ. Then in Worlds Apart, Mike asks Jeff to validate it (at not the time idols are played) and Jeff says he has to wait until it is played, even though he validated Tony's before he actually played it. Then, in HvHvH, we have the Ben incident where he plays it before the votes are read. The idol possession stuff is fuzzy to me. Like in Tocantins when Taj lets Stephen hold on to the idol because he has pockets, he basically says its his because its in his possession. Later he tells JT if they vote her out, they keep the idol. But what if Taj never officially gave it to them? She also says if either of them need it they are free to use it. What if she changed her mind? Does it still belong to her even though she roughly gave them permission to take it?

The twists of Redemption Island and Edge of Extinction are a huge rule break. "Fire represents your life. When your fire is gone, so are you". Both those twists, as well as the Outcasts Tribe, really distort the game, and Chris Underwood is to me by far the worst winner yet.

Agreed. Basically win one challenge and you make it to final episode. Pretty dumb concept, not a fan of edge of extinction idea. Also not a huge fan of redemption island, but at least the people who made it back had to kind of earn their way back.

You Ben Idol example doesn’t apply. Mike from the earlier season asked Jeff if it was real, he didn’t get up and give it to him to play like Ben did.
@BungtwinginglyFunny Жыл бұрын
At first I was thinking why would you ever play the idol before the votes, but then I realized that forcing people not to vote for you opens up cracks in a "Solid" alliance if you're on the outs, which I'm guessing Ben was.

I'll be disappointed if Ben being allowed to play and verify his F6 idol before the votes were even cast isn't up here, especially when they didn't let Mike verify Joe's fake idol in World's Apart. EDIT: Holy cow, spot on! I swear I didn't watch the video before making this comment.
@coreydagon29762 жыл бұрын
These are two different things being done. Mike was trying to VERIFY his idol, while Ben was PLAYING it. You can play an idol whenever you want, but Jeff won't tell you if it's real unless you play it.

@@coreydagon2976 You can’t play an idol whenever you want. It’s written in the rules of the idol parchment when it has to be played.
@coreydagon29762 жыл бұрын
@@Peridiam That's true, but I think that rule has no need to be strict because playing the idol before the vote inherently makes the idol weaker. Comparing it to Mike's situation isn't really fair to the producers because it's two different circumstances with two very different implications on the game. It's more of a technicality that the producers just decided wasn't worth the hassle rather than an established rule that had major impacts on the game. Either way, love the content keep it up!

The letter Tai found with the Hidden Immunity Idol in season 32 actually shows the rules on how to use the idol and it says that it must be used after the votes have been cast, but before the votes are read. And though it has always been used that way, except when that rule was broken, I have never seen the rule explicitly stated on the show before. I've only seen what they have done. But now it is obviously clear that that is the rule. Or at least that was the rule that season.

Have there been enough instances where the tribal council vote tied that you could make a video about them? I can remember like 2 times that's happened and the two people who tied had to compete to remain in the game. I think a video on those (if that's happened enough times) would be pretty interesting :)
@babis69192 жыл бұрын
You probably mean the firemaking challenge in final 4. Before it became a thing for every season,there used to be a vote in the final 4 and if 2 people tied there would not be a revote as there usually is. Instead the 2 people that tied would compete on the firemaking challenge and the winner would earn their spot in the final 3

It was said on the show that there wasn't that much time left in the game so that's why she stayed. Missy probably wouldn't have won any of the challenges anyway.

I think if the injury/illness isn’t deemed life-threatening by the medical team, it’s up to the contestant if they stay in the game or not, and having a broken ankle is inconvenient, but not necessarily dangerous. Similarly, in Philippines, Dana leaving the game is technically a quit and not a medevac, since medical cleared her to stay if she wanted to because she didn’t need immediate treatment.
@zjzr082 жыл бұрын
It's not life-threatening although at the end it is deemed by Jury members as a negative (although people not being fond of Missy probably just reinforced that perception).

We’re nowadays you always need to have verbal confirmation that you were giving it to someone and yet sugars basically just stole it without that.

I hate Ben as a winner. It was blatantly obvious that production wanted him to win by “accidentally” confirming his idol before votes are cast, hiding idols LITERALLY right where he sleeps AND changing the nature of the end game entirely when it was shown that Ben would actually get eliminated now. You can’t say no to a Veteran but they weren’t even trying to hide that they were carrying him to the win.

I still can't get over that attack zone challenge, I'm only a few season in but seen some clips, if literally everyone is being disqualified for touching out of the zone then you messed up with your zone placement

From those couple clips, it seems like the error was allowing contestants to walk past the conflict zone. Once you walk past it, you're pretty much immune, since they can't enter the zone without making contact.
