I think part of the problem is that your host said he didnt like it before you ate it , that and the fact it was from a supermarket and not fresh from a streetvender . Most foreigners seem to like it if you watch some Dutch food tour vids . Having said that , I dont like it either and Im Dutch :)

My dad is first generation american, with my oma from Holland. I haven't tried that much dutch food. I love stroopwaffles though. We don't get the good ones anymore where they just fall apart like yours. We get hockey pucks. I haven't had them in awhile and looks like I can't anymore, cause they have potato and I'm allergic. Bogus.

Look online for either Daelman's (upmarket national brand) or Van Vliet (premium o.g. Gouda-based brand) if ya can find it. About as good as you'll find unless you're at a fresh stroopwafel stand in holland.

The way i eat my tompouche is by sliding a knife through the cream (banketbakkersroom/pudding) so you've got the bottom peace with a layer of cream and the pink top with also a layer of cream.
