It's not as cheap as it used to be and they even changed the recipe of it in recent years so now you see MegaForce more in Finnish meme culture instead of ES.

Eh, the bit on Mies Ulos Sinusta missed one of the funnier bits where the intentionally humorous translations decided to *not* translate 'The Huns' from the original, instead just going with what 'Huns' sounds like. Hans. Meaning the bits of the song where the Huns are mentioned, instead come off as insane ranting about some one very specific dude named Hans.

Finnish internet culture is something else! It all started back in networking system in universities back in 80's and when internet hit off we started chatting in iRC. When we wanted to get to know the irc people better finns created irc-galleria and you were able to upload your profile picture/pictures in internet (this was a very early form of social media/facebook thing). Finnish meme culture nowadays is actually like a 3rd generation product of the culture of geeks and gamers.

about juoksukalja, there is a lot of stories and even recorded videos where some guys definitely NOT stealing any beer but having a run-beer! i think that hobby is a bit less common nowadays, i might also be wrong but. there was stores called Siwa, those were said to be finland's most robbed stores (mostly for beer or tobacco)

Yeeah when I was young there used to be a Siwa that I was flabbergasted they did not do the counting and hire a security for it since I had... quite wild friends who would just go with an empty bag, put 24pack into it and buy something small multiple times a day. Like the backpack suddenly looking like a cube 😂 One guy tested how much the cashiers are interested and hold one under his other arm under a jacket while paid like gum being sideways to the cashier and it went thru like nothing. During a summer it was unhinged amounts that the place must've been losing money so it must've been just cheaper to hire a security. I'm not saying I was a saint, but I legit did not like to steal myself from shops. I did not really even need to since atleast when hanging out with that group, people took so much that it was really for like 10 people for the night.. I remember when couple friends were at my place and we had been to my local shop at the evening, then next morning when I was still passed out for something crazy stupid I did. They had during the next morning just walked in and filled a basket and walked out with it. Then I wake up at noon and am leaving to friends place and go to the shop where the cashier says to me: "Bring atleast the basket back" and I was geniunely confused like what.. then yadayaa and I said that they left at the morning and I have no idea what they have been doing after that so it has nothing to do with me (they had not left st morning, but I was at sleep so they might aswell). The cashiers were mad At Me the Next 6months I lived there and I had never even been unpolite the couple years I lived there before that 😂 I tought it was Also a bit unhinged. like I don't control 2 friends and what they do. Just said that I can tell them to not do anything again if they did do something, that's really it. I did more so stuff that if it would hurt anyone it would be me. In general like stealing and stuff like that always felt dirty. This is anyway like 10 years ago. People cleaned their act or do whatever they do, nothing good I suppose.

It's pretty bad even today. At least in the area I'm in. All six-packs and such of lonkero are hidden behind the cashier's desk of my local shops. I have encountered 2 active beer-runs this year first hand. When it was happening the most coppers had regular visible patrols around the area and randomly asked questions from people.

I have never took running beers but I definitely have witnessed people doing it. I was present actually one time a person I know took running beers from a gas station when we were stopped. Problem was we were already like adults so we went "what the fuck man you are 40 years old?" and made him go back to the store, apologize and pay. :D

Oh and also there used to be a siwa store near me and it was a daily thing for people to go and get juoksukaljat, even when there were security officers people just kept doing it. I'm not sure if this is true but it's kinda a joke in finland that the siwa grocery store chain closed and went bankrupt because of juoksukaljat. 😅

I have witnessed running beers. I was at the cashier, a young lad just walked into the store, took a 24 pack of beer, walking out of the store he pointed at the pack and said "I'm taking this". Me and the cashier just stared at him walking past us, cashier just said nonchalantly: "Well.." and I paid my groceries. I suppose the cashier informed the police after I left.

I knew a guy who worked part time in Siwa. He told they werent allowed to physically stop juoksukalja "robbers" because they could get hurt. And workers having to be on sick leave would cost the employer much more than a beer case 😅

I have witnessed juoksukaljat, once when beer was still sold in glass bottles in a case of 12 beers (called mäyräkoira or 'dachshund') The cashier just sighed "Oh so they took juoksukaljat" And once when someone took a case of 24 beer cans, they weren't so lucky and got caught on the front yard of the store by the guard. I think they were just taken back to the store to pay for the beers.
