Former Australian Army lawyer David McBride has been sentenced to five years and eight months for disclosing information regarding alleged Australian war crimes in Afghanistan.
Supporters of McBride have voiced concerns that the Australian government is prioritizing punishing him over addressing the alleged perpetrators of war crimes.
McBride, surrounded by supporters and his pet dog, arrived at the Supreme Court in Canberra this morning. He will remain in custody until at least August 13, 2026, before being eligible for parole.
