In the past Fernandez was light years ahead of Coco as far as mental strength and focus. Now Coco has grown up and has Fernandez's mental focus. Fernandez played about 95% of her potential but Leyla doesn't have the physical leg strength to run laterally as well as Coco which allows Coco to chase more balls down causing Leyla to try and hit closer to the lines causing unforced errors. She played almost as good as she can but still lost.
@quesee0814 күн бұрын
Correct. This is the max Leylah has done (kudos to her for reaching top 50 given her limitations). Her physical movement is really worst. Think about this. She is actually 2 inches taller than Jasmine Paolini but compare their lateral movement and coverage. Its miles apart. Leylhah is 5'6" but she plays like 5 foot tall.

Leylah needs to watch some Rafa Films. She’s a lefty which should be an advantage. She needs to improve her two handed backhand and put more spin and pace on her forehand. The serve needs some work too.
@rodneymojo14 күн бұрын
If "I wish I was a little bit taller" was a tennis player. Leylah's challenge is her physiology. She's doing a great job of accommodating for it, but she needs to be taller and a lot stronger to do the things you're suggesting. With that said, if she can get more RPMs on her shots, she should be able to contend a bit better. She just struggles to end points efficiently.
@kuyanick14 күн бұрын
@@rodneymojo To be fair, Jasmine Paolini from Italy is shorter than Leylah at 5'4" and ranked #4 in the world. I do agree with strength training, Leylah will be able to compete better against stronger opponents.
@rodneymojo14 күн бұрын
@ for sure. But Leylah is short and petite/thin. She’s 2” taller than Jasmine but weighs 12lbs less. Muscle matters. Jasmine is able to put more RPMs and MPHs on all of her shots, by comparison. You can’t be 105lbs wet and compete against women 15 - 30lbs heavier and 2” - 6” taller than you. The math just ain’t mathing!!!
@kuyanick14 күн бұрын
@@rodneymojo I stated that I agree about strength training. Since she’s undersized, she can also work on her speed / acceleration-which would compensate for less mass in order to generate more force…and of course to get to the ball quicker. So she could add muscle, speed, or both. Then the match would math and the physics would physics :)
@rodneymojo14 күн бұрын
@ agreed. And I’m 100% rooting for her to do it. If she can gain at least a little ground, she can make an impact at some of the events where her style of play can be rewarded. May sound crazy, but I think Wimbledon is potentially her best shot to make another deep run. One of the only surfaces where being low center of gravity and a tad petite can give her a distinct advantage. Also her ability to pick up the ball and half volley from anywhere on the court. With a respectable draw, she could make a go of it!

I have never rooted for Gauff. Her game as improved dramatically. My criticisms of her in past videos were 100% correct. I can clearly see that now. I always noticed that she was acting immature and would get nervous and choke a lot. She would hit tremendous amounts of unforced errors and would always be complaining, whining, and looking at her box. She has now matured. She is a TOTALLY different player. She always had physical gifts and athleticism but poor mental skills and focus. She now no longer looks at the box continuously, has great focus, much less unforced errors, doesn't whine and beat herself up, and in general is no longer beating herself.
