Little did we know 4 years ago that this would be the last Grand Slam championship trophy Federer would win. 2019 Wimbledon was so close. So glad I was alive to witness the greatest player of all time during the greatest generation of tennis ever. Go enjoy life with your family Roger. Thank you for the last 20 years of the greatest tennis we've ever seen.

Really can't believe it's over for Roger. What a career he had. It was a pleasure to watch his greatness on the court. At least the GOAT race is still ongoing with Rafa and Djoko. When all three men retire it's gonna be a real sad day.

had two break points in the first game of the set!!! then RF broke his serve to go 2-0, that was indeed a crucial moment emotionally for both players and it showed, Cilic was playing pretty well and Federer was having a rough time.
@bernieatkins5182
@bernieatkins5182 Жыл бұрын
It was great tennis from both to finish the game. Cilic went after the first one and it was on a second serve. That was the big miss. Every rally was a fight to win the point. On the second break point, Federer pulled out one of those big serves that are unreturnable to win the point. Cilic still didn't give the game away. Federer had to fight for it. This match was closer than a lot gave credit for. After the 2017 Wimbledon final when Federer cleaned him up in straight sets, it was a great rematch.

Tennis is 50% mind game. Ilicic could have won a few GS if he was a little more solid mentally. You could see he was inpatient, didn't take his time, lost every important points due to instability. I could name many other players that had great tennis skills but never won anything due to their mental weaknesses. Look at the top players how mentally strong and stable are. Novak, Nadal, Roger. The strongest of all , in my opinion is Novak, then Nadal and 3rd Federer. Nadal and Djokovic are insane when it comes to mental strength. They NEVER give up. If down 6-0 in a tie break, 99% of players would mentally give up, not Nadal and not Djokovic. I consider Roger the best tennis player but when it comes to mental toughness he wasn't at the level of Nadal nor Djokovic.

I am not being sarcastic. Tell me why a player has to be given time to adjust his/her rackets? What does that even mean? In the tennis books I have read, I know they talk about the string tension, but that is normally handled before the tournament begins. Would he not have had the opportunity to adjust his rackets at SOME other point during the tournament?

The argument for goat is between federer and djokovic. I don't like the grand slam argument though. I mean sampras only played until he was 31 and only played roland garros 3 times. It's like saying trent dilfer was better than Dan marino because he has more titles. It's a poor argument. Federer played in 2 different eras and became a hybrid

I’ve often wondered if during big matches if maybe the players get paid extra bonus money for manipulating the match to end up going a full 5 sets. Like the advertisers get more air time. So does the venue. And so so many matches go 5 sets that it doesn’t make any sense otherwise. The only other factor might be the gaming industry. Like the longer the matches goes the more bets that comes in. Personally I think it’s rigged
