Has there been any American player that didn’t go to a tennis academy in junior years and had to play at college level made it to a grand slam final? Very special! Super talented and superb strong will! Collins is one that tennis kids should look up to. She has proved that you don’t need to pay a lot of money for private lessons or training at a tennis academy to become a great tennis player.

I've seen a handful of Danielle Collins matches, this one is by far the best performance I've seen from her, she wasn't missing anything. She will need to keep this level to have a chance against Barty in the final.

I've caught Danielle's matches over the years and I've seen some excellent performances but that was unbelievable. Iga has been playing very good tennis. She looked lost out there. She ran into an absolute beast of a performance! If DC can get close to that level this could be a classic final.

like all 4 players in the SF, no Osaka drama queen. Collins's win is sweeter. You gotta love her tennis story. From public court (if I am correct) to GS final. Her fierce attitude has tamed a little for the audience, but you can see she is fired up inside. I cannot pick a winner for the final.

Don't think so, the main reason Collins won was because she totally outpowered Iga(and I don't think Iga was expecting it). Barty has shown time and time again now that she can completely dismantle power players. I think Barty will easily win in straight sets again

Iga knew from the beginning this would be a tough one. I feel like she needs to power up a little, bigger women hit harder and then she is forced to play defensive. Even if she went to the finals the same scenario would play out against Barty. Hit the gym Iga, your tennis IQ is already pretty high, all you need is extra power!

Swiatek had a very favorable draw (highest seed she met was #25 Kasatkina) and made the most of it. She kept it together in some tough fights and achieved more than I would have rated her to pre-tournament. She is working with a rather weak serve and almost no net game but has time on her side. Congratulations to Collins for playing out of her skin, and being able to sustain that degree of aggression at low error rates for an entire match. Great serve, strong on both flanks, especially the backhand. Barty has a far superior and more complete game than any of Collins opponents until now. Serves are accurate, varied and powerful. Collins will not be able to so easily dismiss them as she did Swiatek's. I expect Barty's low skiddy slice to the backhand to cause Collins difficulty: she cannot step in and drive over them into the ad corner (esp into the service box). Rallies will not be at a single tempo. It'll be harder to get into a groove. She'll be pulled to the net on occasion and her net game is untested so far. Should be an interesting battle. If Ash and Danielle play as they have, my money is on Barty winning in two close sets.
@papaczolg
@papaczolg 2 жыл бұрын
Sure, the draw wasn't bad for Iga at all and she still has much potential to improve. Today she was absolutely dominated by Collins, who delivered a top-notch performance I was truly impressed with, especially by the way she put forward her plan A - excellent serve & return, she's so motivated and confident. But, writing that the highest seed Swiatek met was #25 Kasatkina is rather shallow. Her potential opponents included Sabalenka, Halep, Kvitova, Pavlyuchenkova; but they lost their matches to apparently 'inferior' opponents, who then Iga consistently (although not without trouble) dealt with. The depth is WTA is truly immense now... So, there certainly was an element of favourable circumstances to her route at 2022 AO, and her record against top-10 players has much to improve; but she does deserve credit for this semi-final. Again, congratulations to Danielle for this match and getting to the final, well-deserved, and generally an inspirational story of success!

The rules for men’s tennis aren’t consistent. Best of 5 for men’s singles but best of 3 for men’s doubles in Grand Slams. In smaller tournaments, they allow the best of 3 for men’s singles. It’s arbitrary. Why not go with the best of 5 for every tournament in singles and doubles? At least, the women’s side is consistent (best of 3 for singles and doubles at every tournament). It’s not the WTA’s fault if the ATP can’t choose between 5 and 3 sets at every tournament.

Colins really leans into her backhand. I liked how she has remained aggressive this whole tournament. Hoepfully, she can keep her level up in the final and at least give Barty a push or win.

The way Danielle Collins played at the Australian open, she should be No.2 player on tour as she was only player gave Ash Barty trouble.

form THIS level of performance to the disgraceful behaviour on olympic court against Iga today. Such a shame.

The girl looks FOCUSED! She ain't playin! If she plays like that in the final she stands a good chance to beat Barty! Although I think Barty's all around game will give her the edge.....

This is not the same collins...she had some nice big come ons in there but she is much more subdued-which is fine. She was so in the zone she barely celebrated making her first grand slam final. I worry for her vs barty though; barty has no weakness and the jump on her strokes and her serves are very uncomfortable to hit against.

. Cant believe tennis commentator Pam Shriver said Collins isn't athletic

@PanamaVail Pam is actually technically correct -- which is why Collins works around that, by stepping inside the court (especially on service returns), and being aggressive at, or inside the baseline, whenever possible (takes the ball early, puts pressure on opponents, runs less). At the pro level, you try to turn your weaknesses into strengths, and that's what Danielle does here.

Great highlights! Although I believe it would be nice not to spoil the result with the thumbnail.

I mean, Iga's match against kanepi was not promising, and she continued that form here today. I absolutely love iga's movement and scrambling, but I wonder if her racket setup need more power. she's so good at making solid contact while sliding and outstretched, but they her ball falls short, she can't maintain depth because she can't take a full swing.

Can’t wait to see her at Wimbledon. She looks like she could do some serve/volley action well.

Towards the end she completely broke Iga physically, mentally emotionally! Look at the sheer power of her arms and her shots! If you see Danielle's strength training it is just scary!!

This time, ignorance and broken intellect outweighed the enthusiasm of youth and respect for all athletes. I know ignorance leads to failure

Watching this again, Danielle played so well but she lost to Naomi at Miami. If Danielle could play at this level in Miami, she would have won against Naomi and went to the final and defeat Iga. Hopefully, Danielle will rebound. Danielle is calm and thoughtful. She has the game to be the #1 player.
