I remember watching this match like it was yesterday. Venus played so well this year making multiple grand slam finals. Venus and Serena as the the only active players and open era players with the longest winning streak in women's tennis with 35 matches for Venus and 34 matches for Serena. They did this on multiple occasions. These women are a phenomena that happens once in a life time. Thank you Venus and Serena for inspiring us. Keep on shining!

Everyone talked about steffi Graf’s record and no one ever mentioned the old amateur Margaret court era, but now all of a sudden, she gets mentioned constantly when Serena beats steffi and has 23, Serena is simply the goat
@MrBjorn6
@MrBjorn6 2 жыл бұрын
That's not true. If you look up the ESPN coverage after Serena won this match, and Michael Jordan sent Serena a pair of Jordans 23, it was Serena who bought up she's going for 24 and more to break Court record! Does take away that Serena is the 🐐💪
@GldnkidDJ
@GldnkidDJ 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrBjorn6 i don’t think that is the point. They mentioned Margaret Court once Serena started to approach Graf’s record. The goal post got moved. Of course Serena would say she was going for 24 because they moved the GOAT marker from 23 to 24.
@mlorocker
@mlorocker 2 жыл бұрын
I’m the biggest Serena fan ever, but Serena leaned into the “24” talk unlike Graf. Graf knew she was the Open slam record holder and she knew her body wouldn’t hold up so she retired. Serena on the other hand used 24 as a benchmark to keep her motivated and to give her something to fight for. In the end all that extra pressure on her definitely did her more bad than good unfortunately

I know women working in warehouse 6 months pregnant 12 hrs a day lifting 20 kg packages. Millions like them so I am not so impressed for 2 hrs playing tennis. Then Margaret Court after her first pregnancy, came back in tennis and won 3 GS in first year. However, SW did extraordinary things but not invented or reinvented tennis. Stefi Graf is the best candidate for role model as tennis player both on or outside the court. Respectful, humble, no outbursts or bullying umpires.

@@MultiArcadian that’s your opinion which was unsolicited. I didn’t ask you. I don’t care what you think of Serena. Who you think is a good role model is none of my concern. I’m Black. I like a player if he or she play a good tennis regardless religion or skin colour. Third What are you try to say? If some one have 3 top players as favorites and none of them is black then that person is racist? LOL!!! THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF RACISM! Are you out of your mind? We are talking about merit here ore what? How is that relevant to skin colour? However, Sloan Stephens is one which I like but I consider that she is not focus 100% on tennis anymore. From old guard Venus was one of my favorite players. Venus had a fines and respectful to all her opponents. I always considered her far above Serena. Both, as sportsmanship and skills. I think Venus let her baby sister when this one. TO me she wasn't into it. Something about older siblings protectiveness over their younger siblings. I'm like this with my sister. I let her win, all the time.

I wish this were more of a real rivalry but once Serena beat Venus in the 2003 FO Final, which I think was her first time beating her big sister at a Slam, she never looked back. I think Venus only beat her like once in a Slam after that.
