The double bounce call between Haddad Maia and Kalinskaya was ridiculous. I'll concede that given how close it was and perhaps some of the detail lost between frames it was hard to tell if the ball bounced twice before or after it was played, but it definitely bounced twice, so either it bounced twice before it was played or it was played into the ground. Either way, the point should have gone to Kalinskaya.

I really don't understand why we have to keep on having incidents like the one with the late (and incorrect) call on the Gauff serve. We already have challenges, we already have replays, so why not just have someone, the match supervisor perhaps, review the point and determine if the call came before or after the player had played the ball and/or whether or not the player's shot was impacted by the call?..... If for no other reason than it would be a hell of a lot faster than a 5min argument between a player and the umpire.

There have been lots of cases where a wrong call has been made or something deemed unfair occurs where the benefiting player calls for the point to be replayed and the umpire grants it, so yeah, she could have called for the point to be replayed. Hunter clearly stopped playing after the call, with spookily uncanny timing, came from the adjacent court. I personally wouldn't want to win a point in that manner and would have asked that the point be replayed.
@1158scott17 күн бұрын
In decades I have NEVER seen a point replayed after the score has been called because of calls on other courts. Umpires are only to reverse a called score under EXTREMELY rare circumstances of a serious rule error or blatant hindrance. If they're playing around other matches, with other umpires, it's incumbent in the player to be alert or this kind of thing could be happening multiple times on multiple courts, & reversing scores for sounds from other courts is not the extreme, rare, occurrence to take action over & over again.
