Yeah, but before 1994 years ago we got to have the public holiday on the closest Monday to the 26th so it was always a long weekend (like it is this year 🙂). When the republic referendum failed, the Queens/Kings birthday holiday was saved. When the voice referendum failed, Australia Day on its current day was saved. It is agreed by most Australians that the day we ever do become a republic then that day will be the new Australia Day. But until then, its current date will stick. And another fact. Australia Day is a federal mandated holiday. So only the federal government can alter the date or remove it. Local governments cannot do this.

The difference is Peter Dutton spoke up said a vote for liberal is a vote for one people one flag , You will all keep your freedom of speech , And Australia day will remain on the 26th and we will all celebrate it. If he does win the election and it is looking like he will i hope he keeps his word. If he does not we will do to him like we are about to do to Albanese.
