They want to change the national holiday, change the flag, change the anthem, replace all the people. Why not just go to another country if they aren't happy? So sick of miserable people who do nothing but complain.

Australia Day is not just an RDO that can be traded off. Australia has so much to be proud of. We may have had very humble beginnings but we have built a great nation. We need to celebrate our progress and achievements - clever scientists, great musicians, extremely capable farmers, talented doctors. A newly minted Aussie swearing allegiance to Australia on Australia Day would be the greatest honour. One people, one country, one flag.

How can the date be changed? History cannot be rewritten to suit a few woke idealists. Next they'll want the First Fleeters reincarnated to sail again and arrive on a pre-planned date? And I would prefer not to have a bunch of knuckle-draggers call me 'woke' or 'un-Asutralian' for wanting to change the date back to what it was before some do-gooders stuck their beaks in 30 years ago.

How about a more inclusive date that is not all about the settler colonialists? Like the 21st of May. The 21st of May 1962 was when indigenous Australians were actually given the right to vote at the federal level. It's hard to argue Australia was a fair and egalitarian democracy before then. That is the date when, at the federal level at least, EVERYBODY's voice counted.

When the republic referendum failed, the Queens/Kings birthday holiday was saved. When the voice referendum failed, Australia Day on its current day was saved. It is agreed by most Australians that the day we ever do become a republic then that day will be the new Australia Day. But until then, its current date will stick. And another fact. Australia Day is a federal mandated holiday. So only the federal government can alter the date or remove it. Local governments cannot do this.

You can celebrate them during Australia Month: Happy New Year and Happy Australia Month everyone. 1st January 2025 to 31st January 2025 and every year following will be celebrated as Australia Month. 26th January will be a Public Holiday within that month and all Australians and invited guests will enjoy an extra-special day of remembering and appreciating what the First Real Australians (not those sitting in dirt) did. The celebrations will commence with a Welcome to Country Proclamation: Welcome to my country. I'd like to acknowledge the early pioneers who came to this country over two hundred years ago and developed an almost uninhabitable land by establishing farms, roads, schools, hospitals, towns and cities, railways, ports and harbours, universities, health clinics, telecommunications, factories and industries, warm (or cool) comfortable homes, shopping centres, a reliable abundant food supply, libraries, clean water, electricity and gas, airlines, the mining industry ... the list goes on. Welcome to my country. After that, it's party, party and party.

@@majorlaff8682 "almost uninhabitable land" First nation blood has been on Australian land for over 50,000 years buddy. Maybe you should check your facts. Why build roads when we can run vast distances? Aboriginals had crops better then England at the time. Aboriginals guided your pioneers through the bush so they didn't pass, we told you where to build, what to eat, where to plant, medicines.

If we change the date, there will still be protests on whatever date we change it too. I have no issue with changing/keeping the date personally, but I don't see the point in changing it purely to virtue signal. If people want to celebrate Australia Day on the 26th Jan, let them. Australia is a great country with a dark past but also a great past. Like every other country.
