Its an exchange of leadership between the two allied forces. We have a 2 Star British Army General who was the Deputy Commander of our Corp (120,000 soldiers) In Fort Cavaso, Texas. So exchange of Command do happen between allied forces.

@@Spentround how many men on public record do you want all saying the same thing. He should be up on charge, but if not why TF would a man like this be put in such an important position. If he's got a problem why wouldn't he sue for slander. You just give the all clear. Krikey....that's a liability I wouldn't have on my watch.

Don't use the yardstick of your country to measure Fiji. We have had 4 coups. The May 2000 Coup was the worst because there was mayhem and no system of order. The Police couldn't control the community. It did not get better. Then the 2006 coup unfolded and we were under martial law. Everyone understood the implications of being under martial law. We called for a return to democracy but were not picked up by the military or hounded. They could hound those who called for a civil uprising. Some of us were unprepared to put our country back on that rollercoaster we experienced in 2000. That is the heart of this story. Sam Speights's story is unfortunate but what of the stories of the victims of his brother George. He was present in the 2000 coup and did nothing. Communities were disrupted. Businesses got looted. We got abused. In a farming community in the north where militant groups hounded the community of rice farmers, there was no rice planting. Farms got looted, women got raped, and there was so much chaos until the military arrived to stabilize the community. Today, it remains one of the key communities producing rice for Fiji. That is the untold story of their role in curbing militant groups who were calling for an uprising or for iTaukei supremacy. This reporter misunderstands Fiji. 3 systems of governance overlap from time to time. Democracy, traditional autocracy, and military autocracy. During the period of abuse, we all understood that martial law was in place so we went about our business peacefully. Because martial law is martial law. In 2014, we returned to democracy. Human rights was restored. So, can you provide fair reporting on this story?

@@jonesukanaivalu9221 but you are trailing him in the court of public opinion without a fair trial and also out of context. The reporter filed a story of 3 victims, one alleges direct involvement, and two allege failure to stop their torture. But, the article fails in that it did not mention that Fiji was under martial law, that Sam Speight was in Parliament in 2000 but he never stopped his sibling from holding political hostages for 56 days, for creating a human shield in the Parliament of extremists who were looting, burning, and causing mayhem. The police had no control of the angry mob. In 2006, Sam Speight was as he said "active" in trying to cause a similar uprising. He should be put on trial too.

That word 'allegedly' comes up an awful lot. The dictionary - allegedly ... adverb, used to convey that something is claimed to be the case or have taken place, although there is no proof. Does that make this an opinion piece rather than news?

The word allegedly is meant to appease everybody! It neither means guilty nor innocent, as only a Court of Law after much deliberation is tasked with that. And with that in mind, let's arrest Ben Naliva and have him face a Judge, and Jury in a Court of Law.
