What misses in the video is that Austria looks perfectly taken care of in every corner of the country. Swiss has a lot of junk areas, guess they have that from the French. If you drive into the country from any of the big cities like Zurich, Basel, Luzern etc., expect to get through some shitty streets even the Belgians think they look bad. Urban planning can be really bad in Switzerland. Roads are worse in Switzerland, telecommunication is worse (you have 4G on every mountain in Austria), food is worse (a Austrian supermarket or bioladen is very well stuffed), and the integration of buildings in the landscape is unmatched in Austria.

They also have a different past history.. Austria, through the Habsburgs, dominated a huge empire until 1918, at first alone, then together with Hungary, in contrast to Switzerland which rose up from small communities, keeping itself landlocked and neutral. I feel like in regions with a lot of immigrants some of the "native populace" have developed a hatred against immigrants because they think Austrian identy is lost or something but really immigration and multiethnicity has been an important part of Austria ever since the old days of the empire. @@quuaaarrrk8056 That's silly, we are no empire anymore and even back then everybody stayed for the most part in his own part of the country. Today we are basically only the german part of the former empire and not even that completely. And the main reason is crime and that migrants don't want to adapt to a culture they migrate to. Best example is like it is in my small village where there is one certain migrant family which lives in a house some liberal bought them 5 years ago and it still looks like a garbage dump to this day ever time you drive by. Then there are Polish migrants and you can't distinguish them from Austrians anymore until you speak to them, they built a house and their children bought another, great people.

I have lived and worked in both countries and they are beautiful. For me, everyone who owns beautiful Vienna is a winner.For people who say that Switzerland is richer, that the truth is, you get higher salaries, but the cost of living is also much higher.I earned less in Vienna than in Zurich, but I could do more with my salary and I lived in a bigger apartment than in Zurich. Living in Vienna is one of the most beautiful experiences of my life.It should be noted that Zurich looks like a boring suburb compared to a city like Vienna.However wonderful countries and good people.
@realy3k7163 жыл бұрын
The biggest difference is that rental costs in Zurich are just crazy compared to Vienna and it's almost impossible to find affordable housing in the center of Zurich. Though a great advantage about Zurich is that the commuter rail system is much better than in Vienna and the suburbs are better connected to the city, so you can find very affordable rents about 15 to 30 minutes from the center with trains leaving (at least) every 30 minutes. If you live in the suburbs I'm sure you could do much more with your salary in Zurich than in Vienna. Zurich is also the better structured city overall. But of course, Vienna really feels like a big european metropole with a vibrant culture while Zurich just feels a bit like an oversized village (with all its pros and cons).
@bezowashere3 жыл бұрын

I am Swiss and think that your summary of the two countries is very accurate. It‘s true that us Swiss are a quite closed people, being (or trying to be) neutral and always a bit sceptical of new things (which is odd in a country with more than 40% people of foreign descent (26% foreign born)). We are also one of the most divided societies in the Western world - not in terms of language, but the division between progressive and cosmopolitan cities and strictly conservative rural areas with remote and sparsley populated valleys. No doubt that Austrians are more hospitable and open. In terms of culture, I think Austria is far more similar to Germany, whereas Switzerland (even the German part) has a lot of similarities to Northern Italy (fashion, way of live, quality of food, cuisine) and France (mentality, cuisine, lexical influence).

While most Austrians I met during my trip had a pleasant disposition, especially in Salzburg, the rudest and unhospitable person among the 6 European countries I recently visited was found in Vienna. I was looking to visit Heeresgeschichtliches. As a non-native speaker, this word is a mouthful. I went to the information counter at the train station in Vienna, asking for directions to that place. I spoke politely and showed the lady at the counter the place's name on my mobile phone as I didn't know how to pronounce the multi-syllabic word. She raised her voice and said, "I REFUSE to read from the mobile phone screen!" I'm sure reading from a mobile phone, especially with refractive panels between us, can pose a challenge to see clearly, but using the word "refuse" in such an uncouth tone definitely leaves little to be desired. Even if she's lazy to take the extra step to read, I would have appreciated it more, even if she could have come up with an excuse and said, "I can't see clearly. My eyes are not at their best today", or something along that line. Fortunately, I vaguely recalled what the museum was exhibiting and told her. She immediately became helpful and gave me various options. However, the damage of her rudeness was done. I didn't want to get into an argument which would further sour my experience in Austria. When she finally said, "Thank you and have a nice day", all I did was reply, "ok," and walked away instead of "Danke", which I would usually say to most service staff in the region, especially when they have done an excellent service. Since she was so rude, I didn't bother. It was a distasteful experience, but I'm glad that most Austrians were unlike her. Though one unpleasant experience usually holds more memory space than several pleasant ones. The friendliest people I met were actually in Berlin, Munich and Budapest. Maybe I was expecting more finesse from Austria since it was the land of music and culture, but I'm glad that there were other Austrians, such as one sweet lady I met on the plane with whom I had a very long and heartfelt conversation.

Hubsburg empire included parts of Poland and where Polish lived. The Habsburg empire (or Austrian Hungarian empire) included 12 languages, some influence still seen in the architecture was permeated into the culture, Krakow, Praha Wien, Budapest and so on all have many similarities

Actually, the way of living of people almost close both in Austria and Switzerland but If I were to pick one of those countries to live in I'd go with Switzerland because the opportunities are way broader as it's much more Internationalized, this case reflects other parts of the life as well, such as being able to get adapted easily as an outsider and more welcomed by local people according to what I assume.

What you want is city life how it is nearly everywhere. Internationalized means basically where there is not real or less of traditional Schwitzerland.
@tunahilmioglu4193 жыл бұрын
You’re partially mistaken i think. There are rural areas as well in which you can experience the traditional part of the country.Despite the fact that the country is internationalized. And i reckon, Switzerland could be the few countries in the world that provides rural and urban life blend in together.So, that’s why the city life you have in Switzerland is somewhat rural because of the structure of the country in general. @ Karl Huber

I’ve never been to Switzerland, but from what I’ve heard, I would say that Austria is ‘cozier’ and ‘warmer’ than Switzerland.
