The fact that old Cham is closer to modern Malay than the modern Cham is to Old Cham is pretty strange

I think if cham remained the majority language of that region, the modern cham would have sound different. Less Indo-China like of you know what i mean.

@@Rippel0000 casually forgetting that the northern peninsular malay dialects, and other malayic dialects sound Austroasiatic, and as for northern Malays, are assimilated Austroasiatics. If you listen to Kelantanese, Pattani and other dialects you would say they are "indo-chinese like"

@@sriparameshwara3855 because of the autroasiatic influence that eventually became stronger throughout the years. Giving the geographical area they re in. But still, even those dialects dont have the exact same kind of sound like the modern cham.

@@Rippel0000 no, because Austroasiatics were already there, just colonized and adopted Austronesian languages. They do have the exact same kind of sound, in terms of accent. Tone, or deepness of voice not really the same. I am talking about the non-standard malay languages. And as for genetics, I am sure you don't know that the entire sunda shelf has austroasiatic remnants. There's nothing about Austronesian nationalism needed. You're free to see the real northern malay dialects on youtube. You also have access to Pahang-ite malay or aslian dialects.

Interesting. Personally, I think Chamic being very separated from other Austronesian Languages (particularly Malayic) makes their common numbers diverge with influences from neighbouring Thai, Khmer, Vietnamese. Acehnese being a bit similar to Malayic neighbours of Malay and maybe Batak languages in this case. Yet despite the divergence, you can still make out the "lima" and "enam" in the different languages. Cool!

Acording tonsome datas there is quite a huge substrata of austroasiatoc into chamic , abaorbend in its earliest stage. Actually malayc languages have their closest connection with chamic. Peobably acehnese has loanwords from non malayc austronesian languages of sumatra , and in their folklore stories of jungle tribes predating their arrival from costal vietnam and mekong delta area are quite common. Acehnese has also quite a robust literaru tradition of poetry, sufi treaties, hiatoriography, epics and tales that document pretty well its evolution. Chamic is sutch an interesting and understudied branch of this colossal language family

How do you define "regular Austronesian"? The Chamic languages still belong to the "lima gang". They're not that different from other Austronesian languages. I's just that it's got some influence from Austroasiatic languages.

@@flavmendrikaja3784 well that's what I meant. Austronesian languages that haven't had outside influences.

@flavmendrikaja3784 20 күн бұрын
@@MZKEEKO_ Most of Austronesian languages have had some outside influence. Malagasy has been influenced by Bantu languages. Malayic languages have got some influence from Austroasiatic languages. Oceanic languages have Melanesian influence. So none of the Austronesian languages are regular if we follow this logic.
