Depends. I love my Aphex as much as the next person, but it's been a long time since he's released anything truly interesting....analord and Tuss, it's good fun, but nothing to really get too excited about. He hasn't done anything new with his sound in almost 10 years :( Still love Aphex, but i'd find it hard to give him mega kudos when guys like Ae have pushed their sound as far as they have.

Steeplehammer1 I’d have to agree with you. I’ve always been a die-hard aphexer, but these guys take abstraction and beauty to a whole other level of ingenuity

so true. They’ve kept pushing and pushing. As a listener it’s taken me years to work through their material and figure out what they’re even up to. And there’s so much of it that, phenomenal really

2005? you can almost hear this being on both untilted and quaristice. even elements from confield & draft are left in. mindblowing

Tell me about it. Biggest shame ever that they haven't released it, it's a stunning piece of work. I pray to god some of the stuff from the Quaristice live set sees the light of day in some form or another, it's probably their best material ever.

Still waiting for the Vancouver set...fucking brilliant

This track is Schi_zophren_i_c / as fuck. They need to do this type of stuff again. It even sounds better than the album version. Quaristice is the best fucking Autechre album there is. The only thing I can compare it to is Sublimit from Untilted. Sublimit sounds like a fucking aircraft cabin with the APU running solid before pushback and engine start.

@zdsrtgnzetmyet --- I used to think Afx was king, but these guys changed my mind over time. Especially w/ albums like Confield, Quaristice, Draft 7.30 and so on... let's hear it for Autechre!

Autechre and Aphex Twin aren't alike in any way other than superficially. Autechre's music is mathematical, in the same way as a band like Tool. It's made by a different type of person, to appeal to a different type of person. Autechre have mastered their art and will never be replaced. They are truly unique. So is RDJ, but his music is just plain different. He's more into the acid sound, especially in recent years. Autechre are more closely connected to electro and Detroit techno, which even in their most extreme insanity, is still pretty clear.

martialimitator I agree. To me, aphex twin is more introspective. It makes me reflect on myself. Whereas Autechre To me at least is more About observing something with most of the time being this ultra-precise calculated mechanical and mathematical beast.
