We have lived in Napoli for almost three years now. I am depressed thinking about moving back to the states and not having margherita pizza and bufalo mozzarella from the Campania region of Italy. Pompeii is a beautiful place to explore and yes, it gets very crowded in high season. You went at the best time!

If you want to try pizza in one of the most ancient pizzeria in Naples I recommend you to go to "Michele" or to "Sorbillo" in Naples, and then, if I could give you another good advice guys, if you want to see the most fascinating and marvellous landscape of Naples in these days, climb up to Castel Sant'Elmo, that is the castle set in the most high hill of this wonderful city. Anyone else ever wonder about the lack of arch support on Audrey's shoes? Walking around in the wet and cold it seems like an odd choice. I only carry a single pair of shoes on my trips and I go with an okay all-rounder, although I'm looking to upgrade. Pizza looked amazing. Pizza comes in second place on my "if you could only each one thing for the rest of your life" list, right after sandwiches. I like very kind of pie, but NY style thin crust is a fav.

Finally someone eating traditional Neapolitan pizza, you wont find it better. Not just the buffalo mozzarella, excellent base, olive oil and basilico, but the best tomatoes in the world to make that sauce. Someone else here mentioned da Michelle in Naples, the original and maybe the best but I understand you have to wait hours for a table these days. BTW guys if you get to Northern France see how you like the Tarte flambée, which will show you that pizza is not just an Italian invention. Different, but not that different.
