Amongst Indian cuisines I felt that they have a good variety of meat dishes but this is one place where I felt that a vegetarian can be just as happy or maybe even happier than a non vegetarian... 👍🏻 The rajma, variety of sabjis, rotis and baked goods are amongst the best you will find in Gurugram... And don't get me started on the selection of the best of authentic kashmiri meat dishes... I highly recommend this restaurant if you ever visit Gurugram... Arjun

A fine video was posted in Kashmir. Fell in love with her, her people and her culture. It must be noted the history of this region is very interesting. Technically it is Aryan Central Asia and few invaders made it here if they did they did not last for long. Thus the ethnicity, language, culture, etc. of this Valley is very unique. Kashmiris being Aryans are heavy meat-eaters since time immemorial. Islam has nothing to do with this and in fact the Pandits of Kashmir more often consume more meat than Muslims. Though a Pandit will never eat beef. Technically, there is no difference between a Kashmiri Muslim and a Pandit. All Kashmiri Muslims are recent converts from Kashmiri Hindus though of different castes. The only difference between Pandits and Muslims is the Pandits are Hindus while the Muslims follow Islam a fine Semitic religion. Many Muslim converts from Kashmiri Pandits still use their caste name with pride. Thus only minor, cultural, wedding, etc. traditions vary between them but these are border-line. Kashmiris have much in common with the Jat-Sikhs as far as marriage traditions are concerned. A Kashmiri be he or she a Muslim or a Pandit will only marry a Kashmiri. Few have married outside but more often if not always they come from families with problems. I look forward to Kashmir maintaining her ethnicity, language, culture, traditions, etc. as a distinct region of India. In any case India is the most diverse part of our planet.

What is Matamal? Kashmir is Aryan Central Asia. The Kashmiri language is linked to the proto-Aryan language from which the two twin languages (extremely similar) namely Avestan-Persian and Rigvedic-Sanskrit arose. Mata is abridged form of Matar (Mother) . Since all Aryan languages are related Matar in Alma-Matar (Latin) has the same meaning. Kashmiri language belongs to the Dardic group of Aryan (Indo-European) languages and Shina and Kalash languages both Dardic are related to Kashmiri. Heavy meat consuption is a part of the culture of this Valley since time-immemorial. Wazvan is also an indigenous Kashmiri name. Van means shop.

Nice to know so much about our pandit brothers. I'm also a Brahmin from north india and we also consume meat but not as much as our kashmiri brahmin brothers , they are on a different level !

Kashmiri pandits follow the original hinduism to Rig-Vedic people , but unfortunately their culture has mostly been wiped out. Kashmiri hindus are actually similar to other non Islamic Dardic people like Hunza and Kalash Chitralis. But today they have been destroyed

I wonder how does Kashimiri Pandit Non-veg thali includes No Onion, Garlic but Mutton?
@naveenraina1

It owes to its extreme cold weather, in ancient times Pandits included it in thier menu.

Vegetarianism was promoted by Jain philosophy, otherwise meat eating was the norm throughout our subcontinent prior to Jainism. The no garlic/no onion thing is a cultural quirk of KPs.
@jklseries5595
@jklseries5595 2 жыл бұрын
@akshay bhat No. Kashmiris have always been heavy meat eaters. I suggest you read the Nilamat Purana. Moreover,, in ancient times beef eating in Souht Asia was normal. Have you read the Manu Smriti? Vegetarianism was heavily promoted by JAINISM and also by Buddhism. KPs continued to eat meat (though not Beef) because there is nothing mentioned in Hindu texts about vegetarianism. Also, while Traditional KP cuisine does not use tomotaoes/onions/garlic---But you will be hard-pressed nowadays to find KPs who do not eat Tomoatoes/onions/garlic. Even my grandparents generation eats these in salads etc.

@akshay bhat Nilamat Purana and other Kashmiri (Snaskrit) texts mention meat eating in Kashmir. ManuSmriti talks about beef -eating. I suggest you read these texts before arguing. My grandparents are orthodox KPs and they all eat tomtaoes, onions and garlic (though like you saud, they also never add these in KP dishes). KPs have a good blend of veegetarian and meat-eating. I don't know which KPs you interact with.
